What is the little happy pill?

I read some posts before and some of you referred to an antidepressant as a little happy pill. My dad is on Paxil and doesnt feel it is "uplifting his spirits" enough. Any suggestions? I tried to find the posts I read a couple weeks ago where someone referred to a pill that starts with a V and I cant find it. He is going through relationship trouble on top of stage 4 cancer so he could use something good..

    Paxil
For one thing that did nothing for me but also found out I'd been very allergic to it - made me sicker than a dog. I've used Ativan for anxiety and it does help some, but I'm such a worrier that sometimes these pills have little or no effect on me. Think my worry just takes the effects away. Tell him to ask his doctor, there are other things out there. Good luck.

    Hi
I think you may be referring to Vicodin.

Hopefully the doctor can change the meds to something which will help.

    Valium?
I've used Zoloft as an anti-depressant and Xanax for anxiety.
Tried Paxil and it didn't agree with me. Sometimes you have to find the "right one"

Some take a while to kick in
I know that some of the antidepressants can take 2 or so weeks to start being effective. Vicodin is primarily a pain killer, but the side effects are quite nice. I called them my happy pills.

    Another is Fluoxetine...(generic for Prozac)
takes about 2 weeks to feel like it isn't hopeless. It simply keeps me from dwelling on the bad things and I am not near an **** when I am on it....I can tell when I am not taking it, everyone else around me can as well.........so I'm on it for good now......20 mg per day

    V pill
Maybe the "V" pill is Valium, which is great for anxiety. Ativan, Xanax, Lorazepam...all of these are anti-anxiety pills (they are not anti-depressants) which work well for temporary rough patches. They are only good for a few hours, they help you fall sleep too, but they are also highly addictive. I take Lorazepam on occasion when my mind won't shut off, it really helps, but use it sparingly. I would definitely describe these as "happy" pills.
