Enlarged lymph node in the neck

Hi,
I was diagnosed stage 3 rectal/sigmoid cancer in Aug/Sep 2008 at 37 years old.I recently found a lump in the right side of my neck close to my ear (not subclavicle). My recent CT scans of the body were clean except for a simple cyst in my kidney. A CT scan of the head and neck showed an enlarged lymph node (the one on the right). I had a fine needle aspiration taken and the ENT specialist and oncologist recommended that I get a PET scan.

Has anyone had an experience similar to this? I'm wondering what the survival rate is going to be like should my condition be reclassified to a stage 4. Thanks very much for your response.

    Survival rates as Stage 4
Im Stage 4 and I think my survival rate is great...I am still here after 3 years and 3 re occurences and will be here for another 20-30 years which will make me approx 80-85 when at that time I would hope that I get beat up by a jealous husband or boyfriend that catches me patting his girlfriends tush with my cane........and thats all I got to say on survival rates...Live Life as if its your last day every day....and don't sweat the small stuff.......heres to Stage 4 longevity ..............cheers....buzz

That actually doesn't sound very nice when all I was trying to do was cheer you up a little.....Sincerely I think it depends on how soon things are found, how far progression is, and the type of treatment you receive and when. and then a bit of luck ( in which I don't believe in luck ) but there are lots of Stage 4 in here actively living life to the fullest. Truly, its not whether you are stage 4 or not its how you live being stage 4 that matters.

The main thing is that you are here in a world of knowledge wit and dedication...you will learn more in here in a week than most med students do in a year of classes. You will supply yourself with an arsenal of knowledge so that you can keep on top of the very best and newest treatment regimens out, new meds, etc. Stay with us and share this place with someone who you think could benefit from it.........buzz

    Thank Buzz
Things are still pretty uncertain on my end. I guess its the same for everyone on this board. In any case, I hope to stick around for as long as I can too. Thanks for the laughs! I like your story.
