Tried Acupunture

Hi all. I went to my first acupunture session today. I'm tired of feeling not right, and decided to give it a try to see if it can help my body get back to some semblence of its old self.

The doctor took a full medical history, asked to see my records, and listened to all my complaints about how I'm feeling. I quite liked that fact that he took the time to listen.

He did the treatment and off I went home. Now, it could be a total placebo effect, but tonight I did a complete crossword puzzle easily(brain power has been lacking) and even went for a little jog/walk - the first in almost a year.

I'm going for some more sessions - here's hoping it continues to help me feel good.

Anyone else try acupunture? Curious to know.

Cheers
Andrea

    How much did this cost?
    Hi Andrea,

I am curious about how much this cost you? I am interested in trying it. I also heard of someone quitting smoking with this technique and had great results.

    cost
It costs 60 per session.(I'm in PEI, canada for the summer) Quite a few insurance companies do cover it - unfortunately mine isnt one of them. I'll go twice a week for a month, then drop back to once per week as long as I still feel I'm benefitting.

Its a bit pricey, but if it gets me back to feeling like my old self I will so it. Good thing for Visa cards - at least I can collect airmiles with it.

I'll let you know how/what progress I make over the next few weeks. But as of today I ran/walked 2 miles and feel like going for a walk since its a lovely evening!

    All the best

    Accupuncture
Hi there, I'm also having this treatment, I'm willing to try anything to help my body back to it's optimal functioning state. Happy with the results so far and I'm finding it far cheaper than dr's fees, even cheaper than seeing my local physio.

Hi there. The acupunture isnt covered by my plan either. If my doctors could or would have some solutions to the after effects I'd continue going to them for help, but since they just brush off my complaints I had to find alternative solutions.

I pay about 15 to 20 per doctor vist - and thats if I'm overseas at work. I dont have any doctor in canada - I dont have any coverage here. And like I said - they seem to brush off the complaints.

So trying the acupunture seemed worth the price - and for me it seems to be working - so I'll rearrange my budget to fit it in.

I do hope you're able to find some relief from the affect effects you're suffering from. What works for one of us doesnt always work for another - but it does give some hope.

    Take care

yes it sounds like it works for you and i am glad

I just hope I find something to work for me

but since I have a fear of needles....

so I doubt if I would be able to relax much with acupunture.

This sounds interesting - if you don't mind sharing, what exactly do they do in a acupuncture session specifically and how long does it take? Also, how do you find a reputable one? Just wondering, as I am not highly familiar with this but have thought about it.

No problem - A friend recommended the acupunturist I go to. She'd used him for some knee problems. I had a consultation with him before any treatment. The first thing he did was LISTEN to all my complaints - (really achy muscles in my legs, joints and still some swelling in my neck from the last surgery)Then he asked for my medical records so he could review my case. Those two things alone gave me a good feeling about him. He also did not make promises about a miracle cure - he simple said he would try to restore my body to better health. And cautioned that sometimes things get a bit worse before getting better.

I dont feel most of the needles - a few I do - buts it like a quick pinch so its not bad. He puts needles in various areas of my legs, a few on my arms and a couple in my neck. Then they turn down the lights and you rest for about 30 minutes. Out come the needles and away I go.

My leg muscles dont ache nearly as much as they did, I'm not feeling 100 years old when I getup in the mornings. I've been going twice per week to start, I'll soon drop back to once a week and see how I feel.

    Hope this helps.

    needles
I'm not too fond of the needles either, but I dont see him put them in and hardly feel them.(except for one - ouch) I did have some trouble relaxing though - mainly because they play this ocean, water, gurgling brook type music. It may relax some people - but for me it just makes me need to go to the bathroom! And the room reminded me of the isolation room I was in for the last RAI.

So now they dont play the music and leave the door opened a bit. Much better.

    Take care

    ask for woodland sounds
They also should have a woodlands sounds that one seems to relax me

I agree the ocean water one really sucks because it normally has seagulls in it
and any of the flowing water or rain ones make me need to use the bathroom. I have tried a few of those water sounds of one sort or another and it stops being relaxing when you need to run to the bathroom.

But since I really really hate needles it is defiantly a no go for me

    Hopefully it works for you.
