Dad to have CT Guided Biopsy tomorrow

Hi everyone,
I'm a transplant from the Lymphoma side (diagnosed April 2011 w/low grade B Cell lymphoma). My Dad (who's 83) goes tomorrow for CT guided biopsy tomorrow. We don't know yet whether they will biopsy the lung or his liver. He has a 8 cm spot on his left lung, multiple spots approx 3 cm on his liver and a spot on T12. It's not looking good so we are prepared for the cancer diagnoses. From there I have no idea what his decision will be. Tonight he complained of shoulder and arm pain. I told him it's possible that he could have spots on his shoulder and/or arm but they wouldn't have necessarily showed up on the CT scan. He's anixous about tomorrow which is normal. I had a ct guided biopsy of my retroperitoneal in April that was pretty non invasive. Hoping he'll feel the same way after he's done tomorrow.
Thanks to everyone who posts their experiences on this site. It's most helpful!

Rosie

Just want to wish your dad luck today with his biopsy and that it's not as bad as everyone is thinking it will be.

    Stay strong,

Thanks Glenna, He did well with the biopsy though I'm sure the doctor performing the biopsy was questioning why an 83 yr old would put himself throught this. Dad wants to know, what he decides to do with the information once he knows is up to him. We should know the results sometime next week.

Wow Rosie - your dad at 83 is a real tropper; having a CT guided biopsy! I am not even 60 and I am petrified. I am wishing him the best and hope his biopsy results are all favorable. Best wishes - Julie

Dad went through the lung biopsy great...he said himself "it wasn't bad at all". Unfortunately the biopsy confirmed Non Small Cell Lung cancer, advanced stage. Multiple spots on liver, lymph nodes along left lung affected and spot on spine. Met with Oncologist today who offer chemo (buys 12 to 24 months) or nothing at all (6 to 12 months). At 83 I'm not sure Dad fully comprehends all that is going on. Mom used to do all his speaking and thinking for him, we lost her 10 months ago to Lou Gehrig's disease. My brother and I will be sitting with him this weekend to ensure he understands both choices.
I'm concerned with chemo side effects (sick and immune system) and he's concerned with losing his hair. At 83 who cares??? lol it's the simple things in life...

    Sorry to hear...
that the biopsy confirmed your worse scenario for your Dad. I am glad to hear that you and your brother will be able to be advocates for him though. I am sure your family is still coming to grips with the loss of your mother and I offer my condolences. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Cheryl

So sorry the biopsy results weren't better. I think it's so sweet that your dad is worrying about losing his hair at 83 :)

It's a tough decision but I'm sure you and your brother will help him to completely comprehend both choices.

Wishing you, your dad and your whole family the best.
