Hi all. Rog hasn't been on much. I am going to copy and paste what I wrote form caring bridge today.


This update is very difficult to post.
The cancer is progressing very quickly and it is definitely taking a toll on Roger.  We began working with hospice last week and they have been helping manage his pain and symptoms.  There are some days that he is moving all day- driving the lawn mower with Owen, sweeping porches, going with me to carpool, etc.  He coached a soccer game last Saturday and we were lucky enough again to see Roger coach Ella and Grace on the same team since Ella’s team was a couple of players short.  There are other days that the fatigue is overwhelming. The last week has been a struggle to get pain under control.

Right now, we have a beach trip planned in a week.  Hospice here is working with us to help make that happen by coordinating with the Cape Fear hospice group.  We will make the decision on the trip at the last minute, or maybe go a couple of days later or come home a bit earlier.  

We are looking for some peaceful days with our children.

I know it is hard for all of us to wrap our minds around this. Roger has fought very hard against this beast. And while we are still hoping for a miracle and appreciate all the well wishes, prayers, and support, I ask that we do not receive treatment advice- traditional or spirtual. After 22 months of research, both on our part and from our medical team, we are confident we have explored all options. And please know that this is not giving up. He is working very hard every day to live and be here with us as long as he can.

I hope he will be able to post again. It is hard for him to stay awake at the computer screen.

    As a mom and grandmotherr
    I just want to say, you are both deciding and doing what you have decided to do. I appauld your right to do what you have decided is best and I would want to do the same for my family. Our thoughts are with you and your family, tho I don't know you all, you might as well be my children and grandchildren.....love to all of you. Pat

    Sorry to hear this, but it sounds as if he is still trying to live a normal life to the extent he can. This is a decision you have both come to and I'm hoping that you can work out that vacation and enjoy getting away for awhile. Hope he too is able to come back on the board.

    In case Roger doesn't feel like coming back to the board I want to take this opportunity to send my appreciation to him.I remember when I first became a member of this board, and how very frightened and frustrated I was. Roger was so very kind to me, as he is to everyone, and he helped me to make sense of all the hell I was going through.You both are, in my opinion, very, very classy people.Thank you.

    Thank you for the update. Just let Roger know he's on my mind, and how much I appreciate him being my buddy and keeping people updated during my surgery, he'll always be a hero in my mind for that!!! Love ya Rog!!!

    I am really sorry to hear this- Roger has always been so nice, caring, and helpful to many on the board, including myself.

    please tell roger that his courage is an inspiration for me, that i am trying to live each day as well as i can in the midst of so much sorrow and joy, but that is the nature of our lives.

    if you can give him a smile and a hug and if he looks you in the eye just say that was from pete in sydney with two kids keith 5 and mel 9. tell him i am doing the marathon april 2012 in the relay for life and his name is on my tshirt.

    just love him as well as you can as long as you can. if you ever come to sydney i would love too take you around to see the sights with the kids.

    Sounds like soccer is the best way to keep him active!
    From one crazy soccer family to another, please let Roger know that you are all in my prayers and will keep the positive vibes going for him to be on the pitch. I have appreciated his humor as well as his candor. Never give up hope for the miracles.

    Oh, dear.

    I think I must have had a feeling about this today, because Roger went through my mind when I was at church. I added him in when I did my silent prayers.

    I'm so sorry that things have gotten to this point, because Roger is such a dear, dear person. He's fought so hard and exhibited such a wonderful spirit through it all.

    Please give him a hug from me. My love and prayers to your whole family.
