Stage 4 with mets to bone and adrenal

At age 63;I was diagnosed March 24th with Stage 4 nsclc with mets to right pelvic bone and right adrenal gland and chest nodes. I have a large 8cm tumor in my lower left lung. I need another needle biopsy as the earlier one was inconclusive of the subtype (both squamous and adenosarcoma, but not sure) and they want more samples to do an ALK mutation test. Going to start radiation of my pelvic bone on April 11 and starting on XGEVA on April 14. The chemo will be shortly after and what I'll be getting will depend on the needle biopsy.
I've been on this site and feel the honesty of sharing information has been helpful.

    I am new on this journey as well. I am 45 years old and diagnosed on 3/8/11 with essentially no left lung (due to a tumor) with mets to adrenals, maybe larnxy, chest wall, spine and brain. Gamma Knife to brain; that part handled. Started Radiation (have complete 8 out of 13). All in 30 days.

    I hope to connect with friends through this network and talk for years.

    My thoughts are with you as you go through this journey and hope tht we can share information, stories, good days and bad.

    Thanks for joining me on the "journey"
    I just got my second needle biopsy of the primary lung tumor as the first one 3 weeks earlier could not conclude if I have squamous or adenocarcinoma or both. I was negative for the EGFR mutation and they hope to get enough sample this time to test for ALK mutation.
    Sorry to use so much terminology. I am being treated by doctors working with UCLA medical and my hematologist/oncologist is Dr. Edward Garon. The chemo will be determined after results of the latest needle biopsy. I am starting radiation for the pelvic/hip lesion on Monday (15 treatments) and starting XGEVA on Thursday. The technical end becomes the easy part to talk about. The feelings of being in this netherworld of uncertainty is much harder and feels weird at times. Feeling fatigued lately, but trying to enjoy being able to greet each day.

    Update on Treatment
    Thanks Jane Brindle for adding to this "journey". My latest results from a second needle biopsy shows predominately squamous cell nsclc. My first chemo which starts next week will be taxol and carboplatin given once every 21 days for 4 cycles. I got my first XGEVA injection today and will get that treatment monthly. The radiation on my pelvic lesion will continue for two more weeks. Thanks to all who contribute their heartfelt comments on this website.
