My husband was recently diagnosed with kidney cancer in both kidneys. Both were removed. He had no spread to bone, liver, or lung. We are still waiting on path. report, but doctor suspects possible cancer in adrenal gland as well as one lymph node. Wondering what treatments are available, and what to do to help him regain his health. Any suggestions?

    Hello
Sorry for your reason for coming here but welcome. I do not know too much as I am fairly new to this I had my right kidney removed in jan and I think that all now for me is to keep coming back for check-ups. I.m sure someone who has more information will answer you soon. Good Luck !

Welcome to the site, I am new here myself. My husband has stage 4 kidney cancer and the first oncologist gave him 6 months and reluctently we got a second opinion. He did not want to get the same pronosis twice. We went to the cancer center in Tampa Florida and he is a survivor of 2 years and still going strong.

I am not sure what suggestions except to go (or run) to a cancer center if you are not at one right now and get that second opinion. If you trust your doctors and have a positive attitude miracles can happen.

Have faith and keep strong. Good luck

    both kidneys removed
Sorry he was hit so hard with the kidney cancer and lost both kidneys. He will likely have dialysis and kidney transplant in his future. But he's certainly not the only one! Lots of people live on dialysis, and kidney transplants are not uncommon either. The good news is, matching for kidney transplant is not that difficult as it doesn't have to be a perfect match. Lots of people fear being on the immunosuppressants that are required after transplant, but I've been taking immunosuppressants (for another disease) for almost 30 years, so it's definitely do-able.

The adrenal glands sit on top of the kidneys, so if he lost both kidneys, I'd think he lost the adrenals at the same time(?). He can also have a lymphectomy. Women with breast cancers have lymphectomies all the time. I've lost one lymph node in my arm pit.

There is also a slew of medications to treat kidney cancer that has metastasized to other organs, but it doesn't sound like his has spread.

What has your doctor said? I'd really like to hear how things go and how you're both holding up.
