hi everybody looking for some advice my husband has limited small cell he had his 1st scan which came out pretty promising his 6 centimeter tumor had dissapeared he still had a little fluid along the lining of the lung but they were not to concerned with that, because it had diminished from his original cat scan. (he had pneumonia at his diagnosis that is how they discovered his cancer this fluid they said was from the pneumonia) my question is my husband has been sick he went to the emergency room 2 days ago with a dry cough, fever, chills, body aches etc... doctors say it sounds like the flu they tested him for that and it came back negative they did a chest xray and said pneumonia could be a possibility but they are unsure because they dont know if it is behind his scar tissue. so my husband went in for his 3 month checkup in which he had his cat scan and the doctors said the fluid along the lining has increased as well as a new lymph node could this be due to his sickness or do you think the cancer is back any advice would be greatly appreciated. his doctor is already talking to him about a second line of treatment but i have read that sometimes scans can show activity when it is really due to illness thanyou everyone tracy

I was just wondering did they tell you whether or not the fluid has cancer cells in it or not. That will make a big difference as to how he does?

    pleural effusion
hi thanx for commenting. no they dont know for sure they tried to drain some fluid in the beginging but when the pulmonologist went in he said there wasnt enough fluid to drain from and it would have been real dangerous. they were pretty confident it was from his pneumonia and said if it dissolved any on his first scan it would be a good indication that it did not contain cancer cells. well here we are at the 2nd scan and it has increased however he is sick with the flu so i just dont know?
