Not what I wanted to hear but better than I expected...

As some of you know I had a CT scan in February and they saw "subtle changes" in my left lung so the scan was being sent to the Cancer Review Board. I finally heard from my rad onc yesterday and he said there was a lesion in my lung but the nodule didn't look the same as the one I had which was NSCLC adenocarcinoma. I went numb at first but after it all sank in I realized that just because there is a nodule in my lung it doesn't mean it's cancerous. Not all nodules are malignant and I was encouraged by the fact that it didn't look the same as the one I was treated for in 2009.

I'm sure you have all already guessed that I will now be playing the "watch and wait" game again. I will be having scans every 3 months to see if it grows. I was also relieved when he told me that the tumor I originally had was no where to be found, he said it appears to have disappeared completely.

I've been getting good reports lately from my ENT, the larynx still looks good and my voice is still strong. So all in all, I'd say I'm doing pretty good, until May when I go for my next scan - LOL - then I'm sure I will be a nervous wreck while I wait for the results. But that's okay, one week of worrying every 3 months isn't so bad :) Until May I intend to enjoy life and forget about everything else.

Hope everyone is doing well and improving daily.

My best to all of you,
Glenna

    It's good news
    Hi Glenna

As you probably remember I have nodules in my lungs also. I go every four months for scans. Almost two years now with no change. Not all nodules are cancerous, amen to that! Congrats on the great response to the NSCLS. One week every three months sucks but you've already dealt with much worse. You have been an inspiration to me all along, thanks.

Thank you for your encouraging response. I'm happy to hear that you've been through 2 years of scans with no change. I'm sure that's what will happen with me also, it's just the initial shock of hearing that there is a lesion. I guess we all hear the scary part first before we let the encourging news sink in.

You are right about not all nodules being cancerous, I had a biopsy done in February when my ENT found something suspicioius and it was benign and I have no reason to believe that this will be any different.

Keep those good scan reports coming and I will do the same.

    My best to you always,
    Glenna

    Thank you Roz!!
I feel guilty sometimes when I read that others find me an inspiration. If only you knew - LOL. I'm as afraid as everyone else is but find it so easy to be strong for others and encourage them.

For all of us playing the dreaded "watch and wait" game. It could be worse, it could be much worse. I would rather play this game than have him tell me they needed to do a biopsy. Yes, a biopsy would tell immediately if it was malignant or not but it would also mean that the doctors were pretty sure it was cancer. Right now I'm just telling myself not to worry because my doctor isn't and I have all the faith in the world in my medical team.

Thanks again Roz for your sweet words.

    God Bless you always,
    Glenna

    Watching and waiting
Watching and waiting with you Glenna. It's not worth the worry right now. Just a little spot. My guess is it'll turn out to be nothing.

Yes you are an inspiration! We all get scared sometimes, we all have our bad days, but it's that overall strength, goodness, perseverance and shinning light that you project that makes me love to 'chat' with you. Attitude is everything. :)

Thank you for your prayers, I appreciate them very much. If you feel so strongly that I am going to be okay then I certainly don't want to disappoint you :) I feel the same way, I've been through enough in the past 18 months that I'm not going to let this get me down.

    Stay well,

    Right attitude
Hi Glenna, I'm glad to hear your "no-news-is-good-news." Thanks for all your posts, and "wait and see" is not so bad. One thing this cranky disease has reminded me of is that we are all on a wait and see schedule, cancer or not. I try to cut my worry to one day before news as much as I can. One week out of three months is excellent though. Ever since my first PET/CT, I've been told there is an "abnormality" on my kidney. Has nothing to do with anything, but it's there. They watch it, it watches them. I try to stay out of it as much as possible and keep on going, like all us abbi-normals. Thanks for letting us know.

    best, Hal
