Anyone with rectal surgery wear one? My surgeon is considering it for me, maybe next week...

    Thanks
You're right, I see it as a setback, but a one step back, two steps forward kind of setback...

    I wore
I wore a wound vac for a while. It was painful all the time. They put the sponge into the wound,it is cut to fit,and seal it with plastic tape that has a hole in it for the tube to pump out the fluid, the wound will heal faster, but the sponge has to be changed every few days.It dries to the skin and when the sponge is pulled out ,it pulls the skin out with it.Pretty soon you are pulling the flesh out with it.The fluid is pumped into a disposable canister attached to the pump. After about a month they took it off overnight for a doctor visit, and I wouldn't let them put it on again,it felt so good to be out of pain.Yours might be different, good luck.

Mine on the abdomen as well, so I think the only difference would be your comfortable laying/sitting position while healing. I had no problems and it was the best thing to come along while I was trying to heal up a huge infection. Definitely, the nurse changing the sponge needs to use saline to remove the sponge and there should be no pain involved. If there is, the nurse needs some instruction and you need a new nurse! You need one experienced in dealing with a wound vac.

I had one. from my chest all the way down. my belly button was stapled. It only hurt when they changed the sponges. I wore one home and home health came out and changed it everyday. I would wear one again if I had to. mine was colon surgery so I'm not sure about how rectal would be. good luck! I hope things went ok for you
