Wet cough

in Head and Neck Cancer #1

there are times when I tend to get involved with my life and the fact that my husband had camcer

a year ago. But then something happens and i remember.  About a week ago i had a pretty nasty cold. It lasted a few days and then it

was

gone.   Last Tuesday my husband said his throat hurt, kinda swollen. The next

day he was fine. We flew to Phoenix that same day. As you know it’s very dry on Phoenix and I noticed my husband was

 coughing more.  He was more dry mouthed and it kinda of made sense. Now that we are home he has kind of a wet cough. He says it’s because  he has gunk in the back of his throat (which he does get).  I get so worried that his cancer will come back.  Paranoi, really. Anyone notice change of climate affect their dry mouth or coughing?

    He should be having regular visits with his care team, at 18 months post I see mine every three months.  But in answer to your question, yes, my dry mouth changes depending on conditions.  I had a garden variety headcold in April, which had my wife insisting I see my Primary Care doc (I didn't) and my mucus changed considerably, including coughing up more.  My headcold went away like I figured it would, and my dry mouth is back to normal.  I recommend going back to frequent salt and soda gargles, and I tapped into my magic mouthwash stash.  I found a warm nasal saline rinse with a Neilmed kit also helped a lot, especially at bed time.

    He does seem them regularly. His last visit was in March and everything was great. He goes back again in june. Thanks so much for your insight. Sometimes it just gets scary.  For me. He’s fine :)

    lot of icky bugs going around

    the cough is probably the usual gunk sliding down the back of his throat.

    My son got nasty flu, and just had to tell me - then share it!

     

    Now I'm better - almost, and he's still bad...

    I recently got laryngitis and could hardly talk then 3 days later got a sore throat.

    Then started getting a lot of mucus in sinus and throat.

    Saw on the forums that Mucinex helps a lot so I tried it and it started

    clearing stuff up right after I took it

    This was the cold formula kind and helped the rest of my symptoms also.

    Cleared up in another week.

    But when you have previous cancer definitely makes you apprehensive about anything going on in that area.

    So we don't assume or we shouldn't that cancer is back but don't let anything go too long

    get to your ENT if you are nervous about it-better safe than sorry-and takes the worries away being proactive 

    on these situations.

    MMDowns,

    I was going through treatment the same time as your husband and enjoyed reading your posts and reassuring myself that I was not the only one having the issues I was having.  Recently, I got a sore throat and my voice actually changed and got raspy from it.  I was not too concerned, but my wife went into panic mode.  She is so afraid we are going to have to go through this again.  I think she is more afraid than I am.  To be honest, I was so sick during treatment I don't remember some of it but it is crystal clear in her memory.  

    I am glad your husband is doing good. It is okay to get scared, you went through a lot.

    Hi There

    Hello!  I haven't checked into the forum for quite some time.  Life keeps us busy.  Glad to hear that you and I are in the same boat, so to speak.  Often times, I forget that my husband even had cancer.  He is doing great, but any time he chokes or anything, I get worried.  He isn't worried at all about anything.  Haha. He leaves that to me, I guess.  :). That's what we wives do.
