Frequency of scans

How often do people have scans?  I had posted awhile ago wondering if I should do xeloda. For a variety of reasons I decided against it.  I thought I was told I would have a CT scan every six months initially but then the oncologist said annually.  That seems like a long time. I have an appointment at the Mayo Clinic for an unrelated issue and am hoping to get input from them on how they would treat my situation.  I am stage 2a and had a resection in December.  19/19 lymph nodes negative.  Negative margins, no evidence is spread to other organs.

    Annually...

sounds good for Stage II; but I'm only an expert when it comes to me, so don't take my word for it.

I've known several folks who have basically forgotten they ever had Stage I or II Cancer, because they are out so many years (must be nice).

I wish you may never ever need anything but CT scans and blood work.  Go and get on with your life and don't look back (unless its just a peek).

Frequency of scans depends on tumor type and stage.

Mine is a slow-growing tumor.  I was having scans at 18 month intervals.  After 8 years of being clear, they found a recurrence in September for which I had surgery.  Next scan is in May, followed again in 6-12 months. I'll be going back to a 12 month scan cycle soon, even with my recent recurrence.

    Scans

My scans were every 6 months for the first two years (after all treatment and surgery was completed) then yearly for the last 3 years - total of 5 years and then the doctor cleared me to my primary care doctor.  Every doctor is different so if you don't feel comfortable with yearly than you have the right to express that concern.  You need to be your best advocate because they don't have to deal with the after effect if something shows up later.  You have to make the call, but make sure you are comfortable with the care you are receiving.
