Back from Vacation

Hello all,

We had a wonderful few days away in warm sunlight and have now returned to cold temps and wind.  My husband was thrilled to have been able to take this time off and enjoyed himself thoroughly, eating almost everything and even having a few glasses of red wine(!)  I thought the oncologist would scold him for the wine but he didn't.

Before leaving on vacation, I mentioned that my husband would be going on a maintenance program once we returned, and the program has started.  It is in fact a lower dose of 5FU, lucavorin and herceptin.  I don't know the dosages however.  The oncologist wants to keep hubby in remission he said so has opted for this maintenance program every 2 weeks for a period of 2 years(!) after which he will be on herceptin only.  I pray this works - I know how aggressive EC is.  I honestly was shocked at the 2 year time period - I'm sure the insurance company will be shocked as well - I'm hoping there are no denials.

Hubby is doing better than I am though.  I picked up a miserable cold on the plane ride home and he is now taking care of me!

I hope those I know here are well and send positive thoughts and prayers to them as well as those who are just starting out on this journey.   As always I'll return with updates.

Take care,

Angela

    Great For You Guys

    Hello Angela,

Glad you guys enjoyed your vacation.  Great that your husband is doing so well.  Great that he was able to have a little wine, as well.  Sometimes you gotta do some things that make you feel like you're in charge of your life, not the cancer.

I've not heard of such a maintainence program as you guys are going to be on.  I'm 5+ years into a maintainence program with the herceptin, but I've never heard of doing actual chemo like that.  My case isn't recent though, so maybe that's this week's cutting edge treatment and I just don't know of it.

    Keep on winning,

    Ed
