My cancer has spread!

I had scans September 6th and my CT showed no cancer in lungs or liver, body can showdown Osteo Blastic Tumors, that were growing.  I had a brain scan on September 27th, along with chest x-rays.  I had radiation for the spread of the cancer to my brain, and this was telling follow up.

There was no change 10 rounds of radiation and the cancer was still there.  My tumor markers went up 300 points I 3 weeks so we knew it had become aggressive.  I thought the brain scan was the bad news, I was wrong.  They did the chest x-rays and repeated them, said it wasn't clear.

When my oncologist called, he said I went from a 100% clear scan 3 weeks earlier to both lungs now being fully consumed with cancer.

I start on hospice tomorrow, and am OK with it. It is now time.  I am out of options, My last pain dr. Is the director of the hospice I chose, my oncology I'll continue to be my attending oncologist, and the pain Dr who put in my pain pump in May, works with the director for pain management.

I am so fortunate to be able to keep all of my doctoand they are not changing  any meds, unless I need a bump up.  I am very happy it has turned out so well with the doctors.

I have had people ask me why I don't go to a hospice center or nursing home?  That I am burdening my children, they told me absolutely not, I can't figure out why friends think they know what is best????  I

Hugs to all and I wish I had better news, but it has been a long hard ride, yet I feel so blessed!

Carol

    Strength and poise

that is what you represent to me.  You have dealt with ever blow that cancer has dealt you with strength and poise.  How I wish this wasn't happening to you.  I am inspired that you are in peace with your decision to start hospice now - nobody knows better than you when the time is right.  Having all of your doctors around will be a comfort and I wish you continued strength and peace.

The tone of your post is so

The tone of your post is so calm and assured. I can only hope that i would be the same if I were to have that prognosis. I thought about this poem and though it's very popular, thought I'd share it.

    She Let Go

She let go. Without a thought or a word, she let go.

She let go of the fear.  She let go of the judgments.  She let go of the confluence of opinions swarming around her head.  She let go of the committee of indecision within her.  She let go of all the ‘right’ reasons. Wholly and completely, without hesitation or worry, she just let go.

She didn’t ask anyone for advice. She didn’t read a book on how to let go.  She didn’t search the scriptures. She just let go.  She let go of all of the memories that held her back.  She let go of all of the anxiety that kept her from moving forward.  She let go of the planning and all of the calculations about how to do it just right.

She didn’t promise to let go. She didn’t journal about it. She didn’t write the projected date in her Day-Timer. She made no public announcement and put no ad in the paper. She didn’t check the weather report or read her daily horoscope. She just let go.

She didn’t analyze whether she should let go. She didn’t call her friends to discuss the matter. She didn’t do a five-step Spiritual Mind Treatment. She didn’t call the prayer line. She didn’t utter one word. She just let go.

No one was around when it happened. There was no applause or congratulations. No one thanked her or praised her. No one noticed a thing. Like a leaf falling from a tree, she just let go.

There was no effort. There was no struggle. It wasn’t good and it wasn’t bad. It was what it was, and it is just that.

In the space of letting go, she let it all be. A small smile came over her face. A light breeze blew through her. And the sun and the moon shone forevermore.

    Oh, Carol

    I want to scream, "No."
Instead I'll say, "You're forever in my heart."

    Love,

You listen to your family and not your friends!  My brother-in-law passed on April 1st from pancreatic cancer.  When it came time for him and my sister to bring in hospice, my sister adamantly informed all of them there was no way John would be passing anywhere else but at home!  I hope to be at peace as you are when my time comes.
