Post-Op Appointment

I had my post-op appointment today, three and a half weeks after my surgery.  The nurse practitioner took a look at what is left of the incisions, which isn't much, and said I was making a "remarkable recovery", and released me to do pretty much whatever I want.  Don't know what it is about me, but for some reason, I seem to recover from surgeries quite quickly (knock on wood).  Must be family genetics, though, because my dad recovered from his many, many operations pretty quickly as well.  Anyway, she had me take a blood test to determine if my kidney function had returned to its pre-op state.  My creatinine level before the operation was 1.07.  On the day following the operation, it was 1.20, so we'll see what the level is now.  I'm scheduled for a return visit in mid-January and they've already scheduled an abdominal CT and a chest x-ray for me about a week before the appointment.  Future scans will be through ultrasound instead, to minimize my exposure to radiation.  But they want a CT scan this time around to better see what the kidney looks like at that time.  She gave me an option as to which doc I could see.  I could either select the urological oncologist I was originally seeing (who is a fantastic doctor and a really nice man) or the surgeon (equally fantastic, but not quite as warm and fuzzy).  Because he'd seen my innards, I figured it would be best to see the surgeon.  I really couldn't make a wrong choice, since I would have no problem recommending either to anyone with a similar issue.

So, all in all, I am really happy at how today went.  I'll be working my way back into a regular workout routine at the gym slowly, but it sure was nice to hear that everything is looking good 3-1/2 weeks out.

    I know

what you mean about being resilient. I have always said that we can recover from almost anything. You have got to believe that.
