L Glutamine Help

Options

Almost 3 months out of Rad/Chemo treatments. Mouth burning (Burning Mouth Syndrone) mostly back of tongue/ upper-throat, and extremely DRY Mouth.  Have read on posts about taking L Glutamine during treatment.  Does it still work post-treatment?  If so, dosage and powder or pill form the best.  Both conditions are driving me crazy and hampering moving forward eating solids.  Thank you for any information.    Lisa

I still have it in my cupboard...

3 years out....yes, it helps and it's good for you.  Get the powder....mix with water....swish and swallow.  Dosage is on the bottle....you really can't OD on it...

One doctor said no to L

One doctor said no to L Glutamine, while two said yes. I went with the yes and recommendations from this site. How are you doing, Lisa?

    Lisa here

Hi LiseA...... I'm doing OK.  I do have to take it One Day at a Time since each new day may be different from the previous.  Sometimes good, sometimes not so good but, I am just 2 months out of treatment. I am very lucky that I have, so far,  kept most of my taste.  Somethings may taste abit off but not bad.  I have even had a beer.  I can chew and swallow but do have some "Burning Mouth Syndrom" mostly towards the back of tongue.  Mucus is getting better and only a few sores here and there crop up.  The Dry Mouth I will say hit me like a brick wall. Started the last week of treatment and just got worse and worse.  Still rinse with baking soda, will add the L-Glutamine. Also, after I brush will use Oral B rinse since it has a bit of a slophing effect with the peroxide to help clean out excess gunk.  Just ordered the zylamelts to add to my daily Biotine. Will be slowly weaning off pain med now.  So diet wise, still mostly soft for me along with my shakes (can't wait to get rid of my PEG).  I have just recently added 2 Lean Cruisines, Fett Alfredo & Salisbury Steak w/Mac & Cheese. Pancakes, French toast (no crust), scrambled egg, New York frozen Garlic Toast ( add extra butter before you eat and just rip the insides from the crust) and just added Gaterade to my drink menu.  Each week I try some new things. Next month Chinese Buffet...here I come.  Sorry this is so long but just wanted to let you in on a newbies beginning recovery.  Hope you are going Ok, treatment will be over soon and you can start your recovery and feeling more like Lisea again.  Any questions please feel free to ask me.  I'm here to help if I can Hugs, Lisa

Lisa, so glad you're able to

Lisa, so glad you're able to eat better.  I was reading the list and thinking "yummm"!  Does the Biotene help? Is it a mouthwash? Noticed any difference with fhe Glutamine?  Couple sores on inner lip actually looks better after a few days of the glutamine rinse.  I'm just tired today. It hits me more some days than others.

    Hi Lisea.

Hang in there, I feel for you so.  I made a mistake. The rinse I use all the time is "OralGel" can get it at Walgreens, grocery, CVS.  I use all the Biotine products also since they are gentle and help a little with the dry mouth.  Have not ordered the Glutamine yet.  One thing I will recommend to have ready is Zylamelts for Dry Mouth. Got it on Amazon.  That is one of my biggest problems right now and does hamper some eating. But thanks to the recommendation from this forum, I just started using them and already notice a difference when I have one in my mouth
