Started Radiation today

Wow, I can not believe that I am finally beginning the last phase of treatment!  It has been a long year, but I have been blessed with good results.  I look forward to reading old and new posts to help me through this pathway.

I was surprised today when I thought I was only having session 2 of planNing and 4 more tatoos (ouch).  My RO came in to ask if I felt any different.  I thought he was asking if I changed my mind.  He said, "Well, that was treatment #1."  I found out today that the decision as to whether you have the hyper fractionated (3 week) plan or the traditional 25 treatments depends on measurements.  It has nothing to do with the type of tumor you had.   With every step I learn something new!

Thank you to all who have posted on Radiation, and best wishes to those who are still waiting to get to this point in your treatment.

Kathy

Can you see the finish line?

Wow, I like the idea of a hyper fractionated plan. What plan are you on? You are so right, those tatoos hurt. You are almost at the end. Love Surf

    My plan

    Hi, Surf

I was hoping for the 3 weeks, but I will be getting 25 rounds.  RO said it depends on the measurements, and what is left of my breast is too large for the hyper fractionated plan.  My PS is happy; she thought the more intense shorter plan might have damaged tissue that is still healing.  My surgery was March 3rd.  I never would have thought that RAD would be 3 months later.  I began treatment last July 23rd (first chemo), and my last RAD is planned for July 12th.  A full year - a long year - hopefully the memories and SE will pass more quickly than treatment did.  I plan to return to the classroom in September, and I just keep hoping nothing will delay any treatment moving forward.  As it is, I will only have about 4 weeks to recover - I plan to be as organized as I can get myself so that I can crash when I get home at the end of each school day.

        Thanks!

         Kathy
