5/31 Port Installation

Thumbs up! Yesterday 5/31: had the Port installed near my right shoulder.

As ever, i kinda spazzed over having to get the IV inserted -- they wanted to put it in my hand and i just broke down and cried.  I know it's not rational, but i just am seriously bothered by needles.  So they were very accomodating, and when i got into the OR, they gassed me, which was l-o-v-e-l-y...  A few deep breaths and -- i was waking up afterwards!  Wish it could always be like that: that medical professionals wouldn't be dismissive.  Lolz, still pretty anesthetized and glassy-eyed here, and note the "insta-tan" on my chest from the sterilizing iodine wipedown...

They gave me Percocet for pain management and i took one in the recovery room, so as to be covered when anesthesia wore off: slept pretty solidly, and have been sleepy a lot of today, but have not taken another!  I'm surprised that it is not very uncomfortable, what with being cut-open and having a strange apparatus in my body, but oh-boy i am glad it's going easily so far!

Tomorrow-6/2: Chemo

I remember that day. My son

I remember that day. My son wanted to know if it could pick up any radio stations.

    Looking good so far!

Glad you had a good experience.  I did not opt for a port, and thankfully all 6 rounds went fine.  Like you, I am not a fan of needles, and the IV right on the wrist bone is by far the worst.  It is amazing what we can handle when we remember the WHY.

Best wishes for another compassionate session tomorrow as you begin chemo.  I remembering overpacking my first time - I had decided that I needed to pack like I was being admitted just in case something happened with a reaction or something.  I did not trust that my family members would bring what I wanted, so I took it with me!

Enjoy a lovely breakfast tomorrow before you go!
