chemo 6 is done, I got to ring the bell!

I held my breath when I looked at my blood work yesterday and was surprised.  My platelets were 149 - I'm almost normal!  I can't believe they gained from 63 last week to 149.  So I got full course of chemo today, although I think both were at the reduced dose.  I asked for the maximum, but my doctor told me that the reduced dose was all that MY body could use, the higher dose was just at starting point, and they scaled me down when my blood and side effects showed I had too much.  He called it my graduation and said he would see me in 6 weeks and it was now just a watch and wait.  I said something about waiting until the cancer returned and he said that was not what he was talking about.  He said his expectations are that I will not need further treatment so that made me feel good, even though I know the odds.  My port was blocked so they had to give me a clot buster to break it down.  That took a little longer, but it worked well and I was able to get my chemo just a little later.  I had a pretty sign on my window saying it was my last chemo, then when I was all finished I ran the bell, long and loud.  There was only one patient left, but my sister said he was clapping.  I though I would be more emotional, but I didn't cry, guess I cried it all out at home just thinking about it.  I also asked if my sister could ring the bell for her husband who kept going to chemo till the end of his life.  They said of course, and she also rang it long and loud.  It was great for both of us.  Hugs Nancy

    Yippee!!!!

So happy for you! Now the new you begins and it will be wonderful!

You will be amazed at how your body starts building back. For me, it has been fun watching my hair grow back. That probably sounds really dumb but the curiosity over color and texture has been a daily question. Right now it is about 1/2 inch long and is black and white. It might have a bit of curl but too short to be sure.

Take care and make sure you rest for this last hit to your body from the chemo.

    Love and Hugs,

    Cindi

Oh Nancy , great news my sister

My right hand is high fiving my left hand in a joyous way for you, now don't start living in anticipation of any thing ,just plan to walk on by from cancer and it's trappings.Be resolved to do life to the max while  jumping over all encumbrances without acknowledging their presence, be it people or things.Don't take stuff on if it does not assist you in living your best life now. Now go play catch up on life, Nuff said .

Moli -Wishing you plenty NED blessings.

    Back at ya

It's a wonderful feeling to know that the after effects of chemo 6 will/might for me, be the last time I go through that.  Wishing you NED forever.  And if I could have my dream, they would come up with a less toxic, 100% effective treatment for cancer.  Enjoy your life.  Hugs Nancy
