Hello Everyone,

I just finished my HPV throat cancer treatment 8 months ago and recently created a website that discusses all the things that I did to help with treatment and recovery. "My Throat Cancer Story - 2015".

DryMouthThroat.com

I will be adding more to this website over the next few months.

Robert

    Hi surfer,
    I read your blog

    Hi surfer,

I read your blog too.  Very helpful.  I am a little more than three months out myself.  Every experience is individual but I can relate to all your trials!  Looks like you did a great job coming through.  I would have liked to read your blog prior to treatment.  Best WIshes

    Welcome Robert

I'm sure your blog will be helpful - especially to those who are just starting their treatment protocols. I hope your taste and saliva continue to improve and you have many happy encounters with NED!

    Welcome to H&N group

Welcome, and sorry you need to be here. I reasd your story and found it interesting. However I was very interested as to where the cancer was? Throat cancer covers many areas, and some even generalise to cover more than the pharynx. Mine was SCC of the supreglottic 3cmx2.5cm x2.5cm and pressing on my left vocal cord. Also my epiglottis was not functing correctly. They did a neck dissection leval 2-5 on both sides, and remover my larynx.

Glad you came through this and doing well

    Bill.

Thank you for the welcome to this community

Hello Bill and everyone else.  Thank you for the welcome to this community. To be honest, I am not the type of person to put much energy or thought into my cancer. I was doing all the right things before I got cancer (veggies, eating healthy, normal weight, exercise, low stress, yoga, surfing)....so there is not really anthing for myself to change differently about my life....so why worry my past cancer. If it does come back, then there was nothing I could do about it...so why worry.  As the reggae song from Bob Marley says: "Don't Worry...Be Happy".

But as I have had so many people ask me about my treatment and what I did to help my treatment and recovery...that is the reason why I decided to write something that can help many other people, in the same situation. In fact, all my cancer doctors wanted to find out "why do you look so good and appear so healthy".  So hopefully what I did during/ after treatment can help many people.  I will be adding even more to my website over the next few weeks. So be on the look-out. :)))

HPV virus cancer was at the base of my tongue

    Bill,

My HPV virus cancer was at the base of my tongue and it spread to one of my lymph nodes in the neck. To be honest, I do not remember the size of tumor. It really did not matter to me. As it was cancer and needed to gone either way.

No surgery was done, just radiation and chemo. Docs said even if I got surgery (which they did not recommend because of chance I would never swallow again), they said I would still need the exact same radiation and chemo therapy. So it was a no-brainer. Just go with radiation and chemo.

    Hope this helps.

    Health Living

I too was a Vegetarian, living and doing all the right things keeping away from foods that were bad for my health, and I like many others ended up having NPC cancer. The reason for this I believe is not just in the food we eat but in the environment we live and work in every day. But I also believe because of being a Vegetarian and living healthy is the reason I was able to fight it 3 times and still here by God’s blessing.
