in Head and Neck Cancer #1

Finally heard those words today and saw them written on the doctor's report also. Husband and I went to see the ENT surgeon today for a follow up. He said my husband looked great. Next scan is on May 2nd with a followup visit on May 9th.

I asked the doctor "now what?" He said that we try to go back to our old lives as best as we can. My husband, in the car on the way home, said that he doesn't want to go back to our old lives. He wants them to be even better. So here is to appreciating each and every day and making each day count. 6 months ago, I was a miserable mess. And now here we are with NED. It is surreal. But a great feeling. So so happy.

    And you can't beat that response by your husband...he's spot on - every day better, because it's all icing on the cake.

    We never get tired of hearing someone report a new NED! The ENT gave you good advice. Go live your life because every day is a gift.

    Not that long ago you had never heard that word, let alone understand what it really ment.

    That's the best feeling, isn't it? I remember the day we heard the words "complete response." It felt like a huge load had been lifted. As I walked away from the clinic that day, I noticed everything seemed brighter, lighter. We were both smiling ear to ear. For a moment I had the feeling of leaving something behind, like I had left the backpack that I usually dragged to treatments. Then I realized, no, I hadn't brought it. I had no heavy burden to carry anymore. It was so freeing, I felt like skipping down the hallway! :)

    Nothing like a good NED. I remember my first NED like it was yesterday. I hadn't cried that much since I was 20 and my parents told me there was no Santa Clause.

    Funny how the whole situation changes one outlook on life.
