Today he rang the bell

as he finished his radiation. 6 weeks of rads done. Chemo was finished last week. These past 6 weeks have been a beast, but my husband and our family have made it through. I never thought this day would get here but now the day has come. All of you here have been such an important part of our journey so far and I thank you so much. My husband will have a MRI in 6 weeks, and hopefully all of this will have been worth it. But for today, we will celebrate the ringing of the bell.

    Hooray!

yes, you both should celebrate! It is a monumental milestone. Hopefully all that treatment eradicated the cancer. The next 4 weeks will continue to be difficult as side effects of radiation continue to persist and sometimes even increase...but you're over the hump and can tackle what comes next. Hang in there and keep posting...

Oh what a feeling to Ring The Bell.....

That is just wonderful news. He is done, but still cooking for some weeks. Now is when tomorrow comes into play. Before it was just one day at a time and only focus on today. You both have gone through that oh so long tunnel, but came out into the sunshine. You both will always be in my thoughts and prayers.

    ring a ding ding

wondeful. Cross the finish line on treatment, start new race on recovery. Expect the same trend of health for a bit more unless it is already on the upswing. Last two weeks I was pretty much at low point so only had up to go. Many experience some worsening of side effects but not long before feeling better a litle at a time. And it does take time, so take each day as it comes. Congrats and good luck!

It really is one of the best feelings in the world to be able to ring that bell with confidence!  I have a picture of me (sunburn and all) proudly displayed on my wall.  I am 5 months out now and still experiencing some significant side effects, but I am sure they will dissipate with time and PATIENCE!  Prayers and best wishes to your hubby.

    Congratulations!

Now the healing can begin. Here's where patience will be an important virtue. Every day will be a little bit better, and finally you'll hear the words you've both been longing to hear, "No Evidence of Disease". We'll be waiting with you!

    way to go

    swopoe,

Welcome to post treatment side of the equation.  Job well done.

Set your “healing” clock to slow, get plenty of sleep, drink lots of water, i.e. always carry a water bottle, sample many foods and drinks, sell your mask on Craigslist and be happy.

Time for both of you to heal on because I know his fight was also hard on you.

    Enjoy the day
