Inferior vena cava filling defects on CT

in Kidney Cancer #1

On my recent scan this was noted, 3 months after surgury and my being on votrient for 2 months.

 

The are doing a sonogram to help determine if its a clot or possibly a new thrombus. feeding of direct access to the blood supply. Worries me because they removed a large thrombus from my IVC during my nepherectomy. Neither one is good. A clot can be bad and a new thrombus is bad.

 

Kinda not feeling good about things today.

    I totally understand you are feeling down due to these news. But it is very good that it was noticed in time, so the docs will take dare of it! how do they remove them? Use some blood thinners? Or remove them surgically?

    Anyway, this is great that they noticed it timely!

    I'm sorry to hear that Matt, but agree with Allochka that it's good they discovered it so they deal with it. I'm not sure I understand the difference between a clot and a thrombus. I thought a thrombus is a clot.

    I understand you Matt and I'm sorry you have to deal with uncertainty, my next C.T is almost next month and I'm getting nervous as times passes, even waiting isn't easy so I 'm sure having not very good report is much more difficult to deal with. But as others said it's best to catch it sooner so it can be easier to treat it.

    My understanding is a clot

    My understanding is a clot can that is non stationary. A thrombus is generally attached with little chance of breaking loose.

    The clot has a chance of becoming an embolism and those can be very bad. The thrombus can be a sign of the cancer returning along its old pathway.

    clots

    Matt, I currently have 3 clots. That I know of. Rt. arm, shoulder and lung. Lung was an embolism from last february's hit that I took. I've been on coumadin since. My right hand gets ice cold much of the day and use of my thumb diminishes. They've said I may be on anti-coagulants for life. But I think they thought I'd be dead already. Matt, it's just more stuff to deal with. Don't you get the feeling that some power is just playing with us? Like "Q" from Star Trek, Next Generation. Where is Beverly Crusher when you need her?

    Thanks for explaining. I never knew there was a difference. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that it will be resolved and that it's not the cancer returning.

    Your so right. Q is testing

    Your so right. Q is testing us.....who is the better doctor. McCoy, Bashir, Crusher or the EMH Hologram. Definately crusher has the best bedside manor.

     

    I just get tired fast it seems. My IVC is a bit constricted probably reducing my bloodflow. My BP is pretty good though at 120/70. 

    Did you ever get nose bleeds on the votrient?

    I had a bout of bloody drainage from 1 sinus for a couple of weeks.

    bloody nose

    I've only had a couple. One was today. But I'm also on coumadin and we have trouble keeping the blood levels stable.
