I learned a new abbreviation today...

I knew that NED meant no "evidence of disease". What I learned today was the abbreviation CR - "Complete Response"! That means the PET was all clear, NED and no trace of the tumor...all gone.  It was more than we hoped for - my husband's reactions to chemo and radiation were so severe, and he is still battling mouth sores and inflammation, we were certain the results would be inconclusive. We were just hoping to hear no mestastases. God is indeed good, and we were so grateful to hear the words "all clear" and "complete response".

Thank you, thank you from the center of my heart for being there to support us and answer questions. We still have a lot of healing and recovery to go through. I'll be active on the board because I know how valuable it is to others.

Going to go dance in the rain now!

Barbara

    CR beats NED

Prayers do get answered. It is said that H&N is the 2nd worst treatment you can go through of all the cancers.

Congratulations and glad to hear all his suffering and rough time in treatment all paid off. Cellabrate, but you both will alwasy stay in my thoughts and prayers.

    Whoo Hoo!!

Aren't those just the best words a person can hear??  I remember the wave of relief the first time I heard them....almost knocked me to my knees.  Yeah....go dance in the rain!  Then come in and do a jig around the kitchen table.  :)

    Yes!

This is such great news! A few months ago when you first joined us, your heart was so heavy I could feel it. Are your feet even touching the floor now? I hope you will stay on this site and continue to share what you have learned to help the newcomers .

    Definitely staying...

to help pay forward all the support we received! It's almost as hard (note: I said almost ) to comprehend this as the initial diagnosis. So many emotions right now.

    So many emotions right now.

    YEP.

You did well. I do believe it is very hard on the caregiver/loved one. You feel all the pain, but just can't do much to help but be there and try to console, and understand the unknown.

It was very hard on my wife as she and my son had to stay in Stanford in frinished apartments across from the hospital. She fell but never told me so I would not worry about her. The hospital had security that would pick her up and take her back if she wanted. Everyone went out of there way to make it as easy as it can be.

Now you fully understand the term; Runnith over with Joy.

    So happy

So happy for you and your husband Barbara!! I'm hoping to hear the same such news in the very near future. We go back to head and neck team on Wednesday to hear what the first post-treatment CAT scan shows and to have my husband scoped. Needless to say, toes and fingers crossed, but I'm confident we will get similar results to you guys! Hope you found a special way to celebrate your great news!

  • Love CR!

    Dear Barbara,

Congratulations that's great!  I'm actually hoping for CR too.  Had one round of carbo/ vinorelbine and my parotid tumor has disappeared.  My oncologist actually said "Wow".  She couldn't measure my tumor because it's gone! I have metastasis to lungs and lymph nodes and will be getting PET scan early December for "possible restaging". Music to my music teacher ears!

Is it the prayers, positive thinking and no sugar or did they just pick the right chemo?

    So happy for your victory!
