Can my throat eventually close up ?

Hi there,

It's been a while since I was here. I came across a friend's message regarding throat can eventually close up if you have had radiation ? Is this true ?

My last visit to Dr about 6 weeks ago he said my throat had narrowed but didn't say anything more. He was very happy with the results.

I've not really had much problems with my throat other than problems with drier foods such as breads and some meat. 

I do now get a fair amount of mucus running down my throat but all else seems pretty Ok. 

Is this true that my throat can keep narrowing or eventually close ? This is something my Dr's haven't told me.

    Robyn, it's good to hear from you and it sounds like you're doing well 

     

    my wife is a gastro intestinal nurse where they do many endoscoppies.  Many people,as they get older, experience narrowing of the esophagus and itbis a very routine procedure to stretch it out.  My mother in law who has never had cancer has had it done a couple of times.  I was checked out about a year ago as radiation can definitely shrink the opening, but mine was fine as well   If it would have narrowed they would have stretched it out and I would have walked out of the procedure

    It's always possible...

    But I'd say the chances are very low, especially if you haven't really had any problems to date..

    A few here have had problems.., but those are few compared to the many that haven't.. Yes, most of us have some amount of damage.., but few have had so much as to become dependant upon a permanent feeding tube.

    I guess there will always be something in the back of my mind because of my base of tongue cancer. 

    Compared to many I consider myself very lucky ( at the moment ). I try to forget I ever had it. But every time I sit down to eat I have this tiny bit of doubt " will I be ok with this ", I usually am. But have had a couple of mishaps where I nearly choked. Luckily all my friends know and look out for me lol.

    Forget it...

    LOL, in all honesty, I'm over six years post Tx.., and I still realize everyday, that I had cancer..., and it's a part of me.., something that I never forget.. But actually.., having cancer probably made me a better person..
