HELP! Severe diarhhea!

Help,

Just this afternoon i had a huge bout with diarhhea.  I almost passed out from it.  The cramps were so bad, and i think i started to panic.

I have not had it this bad before. I am past my 4th treatment, and i have had it before but this was really bad. I have been taking Immodium before too but usually that will stop it for a day and then i will have it the next day.

I am just scared, because i have never had it like this before, and i am trying to understand what i might be doing different.  I do know that i have been taking more Zolfran one a day for the nausea.  Could it be that?  It has been 10 days since my last chemo, and usually by now i am pretty much completly recovered.

Is it my diet,  should i be eating more fiber, less fiber?  Help Help HelP!

Please please continue to hydrate ... and call your

Oncolgoist... leave a message.   Gatorade, banana .. in the meantime.   I had the opposite problem for months...  wish I could give you additional advise.

    gentle hugs.

    Potty Problems

Oh I remember this problem all too well including the middle of the night showers because I couldnt get to the bathroom in time. I was initially told to take Immodium over the counter. When that did not work well enough I moved onto a prescription anti-diarrheal. I believe the one I took was Lomotil, but there are others. ASK. In addition, if you still are able to eat you should incorporate bananas, applesauce, rice and dry toast into your diet. Like Vicki Sam said, hydration is very important. Since you are losing so much fluid you don't want to get dehydrated and need to have IV fluids. It wasn't the end of the world but that did happen to me 3 times.

I wish you luck. That lovely period in my life was 5 years ago.

    Call your Oncologist ASAP

    Hi,

I hope you are feeling better. I think it is a good idea to call your doctor. In the meantime I agree with what others have said  and try to hydrate. When I had chemo induced diarhhea, I would follow the BRAT diet, ( bananas, rice, applesauce and toast) I don't know if you have children but it is what I used when my boys would be sick. Also gatorade is good to replenish or pedialyte ( my teenage son who is a wrestler swears by it). I hope this helps. Love Surf

    Things are better

Thanks you guys,, I took immodium right away, filled up with fluids.  I think it was because i was taking alot of Zolfan,,, for nausea for 4 days straight,,, I notice the first side effect diarhhea...  So i stopped taking it, and it is much more in control...But that was really scary......  Thanks for all you inputs

    Diarrhea

I had pretty severe diarrhea while on Taxotere. Lost 40 lbs. and had to be hospitalized a couple of times to get rehydrated. Imodium didn't work. Then we tried prescription Lomotil. That didn't work either. Resorted to Tincture of Opium. Nasty tasting stuff, but it worked. It is pretty scary. I got to where I didn't want to eat because I knew what would happen if I did. Didn't mind losing the weight though. My oncologist wasn't happy about it, but I didn't feel it was bad. I've gained about ten lbs. back though.

    Me, too

I had diarrhea - often.  Immodium was enough for me, but I stayed close to home.  While diarrhea during chemo is common, you should report this to your oncologist and be careful about getting dehydrated.  Don't.

Oh, I had a friend going through chemo at the same time as me.  She actually started earlier and advised me to get some Depends.  I swallowed my pride and got some.  They're not so bad.  I never left the house without wearing one - even when I thought everything was fine.  Because you just never know . . . .

    Good luck.
