I am two years out from Stage II anal cancer treatments of Metomiacian Spelling and 5FU and 6 weeks radiation. The treatments like many others I am sure has forced me into menopause and osteoperosis. I was diagnosed a year ago before i lost my insurance. I just now got my insurance back and I have an appointment Sept 2 for blood panels and then see my gastro doc after the first of the year UNLESS panels come back negative.. anywho I have not been having bowel movements and have a lot of pain from the "backup" and end up using enemas because stool softners will not work . My stools are very thin and narrow and very soft even after "constipation" anyone else experiencing this? I have NO GAS and  no feeling of gas or need to have a bowel movement. I am VERY tired my hips wake me up from hurting and have to toss and turn because of the pain .. I dont have an appetiet at all ... no desire to eat.Could this be my hormones? I am very exhauseted and maybe that is from tossing and turning.. I dont know but this is taking a toll on me mentally. I am sorry I have not been on here in a long time.. please forgive me

Hi - Please see your primary medical doctor as soon as possible to sort out your problems.  You say that you will see the gastro doc after the beginning of next year?  Keep us posted on your status.

I wouldn't wait until the beginning of next year to see your gastro or onco doc, no matter what the blood work says.  There are all sorts of nasty things that could be going on, like Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Crohn's Disease, partial bowel blockage, and of course there could be another tumor somewhere.  You will be really mad at yourself if you have any of these and wait five months to even start trying to figure out what it is.  Obviously, something is wrong enough to give you all that pain and rob you of your sleep, so you need to get it looked at right away.  That way, if it is something easily treated or medicated, you can get back to a peaceful life much sooner.

    Early diagnosis is always better!

Please contact your gastro doc about these issues.  The pain you are having is a concern and may be due to a partial small bowel blockage, which can be very serious.  I've had several episodes of those and you need to know if this is happening to you.  I wish you all the very best.

    Bpwel Problem

From what you describe, it sounds like severe constipation caused by??  I would press for a GI appt as soon as possible.  If you haven't had a bowel movelment in several days, no gas, feeling backed up,etc and Mirelax, Senna, Ducolax are not working, I would consider going to the ER.

I had a similar problem, nothing was moving, (no gas, ect) for almost a week and I was afraid I might be impacted or had an obstruction.  I went to the ER, they did abdominal xrays, all sorts of nasty laxatives, enemas, etc and nothing was moving.  Finally a gastroenterologist did a sigmoid and found that there was edema in some bowel loops in the upper abdoman and nothing was moving down.  Finally, after more bowel protocols , things started to move; possibly poking around with the scope might have helped!

I knew from day 1, it probably had something to do with the radiation.

Please try to get an appt as soon as possible; you shouldn't have to be in this state of misery and there should be an explanation and treatment for this.

    update ...

I went to see my primary care doctor whom is an internal med doc . I told him all of my symptoms and he ordered an xray . He came back into the room and told me not to panic yet but he saw something . And he was going to go ahead and order blood work that is drawn for colon cancer and rectal cancer .. ï am going to Google what that might be .. he said he was ordering a complete blood count on everything including my calcium and vitamin d levels and thyroid .. mostly everything .I asked him if I could see the xray and he showed me .. it was a large white cloud in my sigmoid area .he said that my upper intestine looked ok .. well the doctors office called me today and stated that the radiologist looked over my xray and is ordering a CT scan in which I have done Tuesday ..I am still waiting for my blood work to come back . Since my visit I have emptied my bowel and have a lot of pressure in my rectal area .. ï wonder what the white cloud we saw what the something is that he is concerned of .. waiting is the hardest part ..thank you everyone

Thanks for the update.  Your internist seems thorough.  I am sure your wait is difficult.  I hope the results of the CT are not too serious.  You are in my thoughts.

    Waiting

Seems like waiting is our primary job.  I know how difficult it is to remain positive while doing so, but perhaps there is something you can do to divert your mind.  I found reading to be helpful.  I've read more books since my diagnosis (two years ago) than ever in my life.

I am sending you all good, positive thoughts for a simple resolution to your issues.

    I agree with Sephie

we do what we can and when we can. No matter when you come onto this site, there will be someone you cab talk to...doesn't matter how long since you were here.  I'm so glad you were proactive and didnt wait till the beginning of the year. Wishing you the best results from your scan.  Not long after my radiation, I had a similar experience and was sure it had metastisized to my liver...nope!  My intestines were pretty much lined with poop. Those other products didn't work for me either, but organic psyllium husks did.  Take with plenty of water.  Best wishes dear one. Please keep us posted.  June
