symtoms

Have a question , my brother had throat cancer 3 yrs ago , scans have all been good, the problem is where his neck was cut on seemed sticky the other day so he took a wash cloth and wiped it off, and clear water begin to squirt out enough he said to fill a pop bottle cap full? After his surgery 3 yrs ago he had a lot of lymph fluild dranage, so much so he had to have a second surgery to stop it . So what the ...... is going on now ? Any thoughts? His Dr put him on meds for infection but the fluild is clear so could this be a return of the cancer ? Is this commom? Looking for answers. He goes back to see the Dr next week , they did not do a biospy so any info would be greatly appreciated THANKS IN ADVANCE   GRAVELROAD!

    Not sure what it is...

With the flurd being clear it is not lymph fluid. It almost sounds like a small infection. Does not sound like cancer. That is a lot of liquid as it sounds like 3ml to 5ml which is sonething that yould concern me as well. I hope his doctor has some answers.

It is always better to be over cautious.......

Once you hear that word cancer from a doctor it seems to always be stuck in the back of your mind. Mine was hust above my vocal cords. To make a long story short, they had to remove my larynx which got all the cancer and anything around it. Did a modified radial neck dissection on both sides, as a precaution and if it ever did come back it can't spread there. They removed 86 total and did leval 2~5. So when I woke up all the cancer was gone, nothing to worry about.

But you see a spot on your tounge or your neck feels stiff or a knot or bump and that is the first thing in your mind. Is it back? Now I know my odds are really very slim it could come back, but it is always in your mind. I have a TEP Prosthesis in my neck so I can talk and sometimes it will leak and need to be changed. When it leaks liquid it's leaking down my stoma [trachea] and in my lungs and you cough so hard you turn red and see stars. So every time I am going to swallow any liquid, I have to think about it each time. It has been 22 months and I still take a sip and just hold it in my mouth and think about swallowing it. I really do not that will ever go away. It is just me 2.0 [The New Me].

Yes I do understand your worries and feelings. I am the patient, but I am also a caregiver for my wife to some extent. She has just entered stage 4 kidney failer. Her numbers are low and they need to stay or go up. She will not do dialysis as she has some other problems too. She was disabled five years after we were married and we just had our 40th anniversary. She is much better than it sounds as she walks everyday and gets around really well. I have seen illness from both sides. I could not have made it without her, but she felt my pain and that hurts.

Be stroung and remember to take care of YOU. You're no good if you don't get the rest and some time each day for you. You both will be in my thoughts and prayers, always.  It has got to the point in the last two years, I just look up and say Lord you know the list right. Just take one day at a time, and on bad ones hour by hour. Keep the faith and just know he will be fine.

Years ago, I had a benign Warthins tumor removed. Sometime after the surgery, when I would eat, a clear liquid would run down from behind my ear. It was saliva. It had found the path of least resistance and caused an opening behind my ear. When antibiotic did not work, the ENT said he wanted to try air sick patches before botox. The second air sickness patch stopped it completely and it never happened again. That was probably close to ten years ago.

Best of luck for an easy solution.
