reactions to first chemo treatment

Well we were excited for my husband Robert's first chemo treatment.  He is ready for it to shrink up.  First treatment was Monday and they gave him a bag of benadryl before the chemo. About 20 minutes after chemo started he started having stabbing pains in the middle of his back and his blood pressure dropped.  They rushed him to er and kept him overnite to check for heart problems.  They said all tests pointed away from any cardiac events.  He is being treated for tonsil and neck cancer and I think it got three lymph nodes.  I don't remember the name of the chemo drug.. He has doctor app on Aug 13 to let us no when we start treatments back.  Did anyone have reactions like that.  I just want Robert well.

    First Chemo

My mom had her first chemo treatment a few weeks ago. Hers went smoothly. My mom doesn't get benedryl before her drug though only anti-nausea medicines through her IV. Everyone reacts differently and we were told that sometimes they will change the drug used for treatment if the reaction is too great. Have you been told what they plan to do? Is your husband ok?

    Sorry to hear that

Sorry to hear he had a that problem. I never had chemo so I can't say. I have heard of many having bad effects but no one had had anything like that. Hope ie is better know. It might not have been from the chemo and just the timing seemed like it. If he was really afread of the treatment it could be a form of a panic attack. I hope he is better and you have no more problems. The treatment can effect everyone different as can the meds. Demoral increases pain for me and my sister will hallucinateon Darvon. I was told they had never seen someone react like I did and my sister was one in a million that will happen to. We will keep you in our thoughts and payers.

    Sorry that happened

I do recall with Cisplatin they did an induction dose to watch carefully for any negative reactions. I did not experience anything like your husband did but apparently others have or they wouldn't be watching so closely. That had to be scary for you both. Hope a resolution is found quickly.
