Musings About Birthdays

Soon I celebrate another birthday.  I'm not young; but I'm not old.  I used to downplay/ignore birthdays and thought of them as no big deal if it was not a year in which I reached some milestone:  18, 21, 30, 40, 50, the other decades, and then senior discount milestones (50, 55, 60, ....

A cancer survivor should be thankful for each year she (he) celebrates her (his) birthday, although I realize that not everyone here is at a point where she (he) feels like celebrating; but I know that for me, I do.

Three years ago I was in the middle of my fight, having to have surgery (Feb), chemo (Apr-Jul), and radiation (Aug-Sep).  I will say that one thing that changed for me was an appreciation for my life.  I feel as though I am a happier, more satisfied person than I was before.  So, to me, celebrating another birthday IS a big deal.

The American Cancer Society calls itself the sponsor of birthdays -- maybe that is what got me thinking.  Cancer treatments have come so far in the past 5-10 years that we all have better chances than ever before.  That will continue to improve.

Happy Birthday, Everyone!

I got "brave" and shared this with some friends of mine, as my borthday was Monday.  Although they have not had to deal with cancer of any sort, they did comment on this being a reminder to them of how precious life is.

    Wonderful Post*

This is a wonderful post....and Birthdays are Good Things that signify the completion of another year.   I celebrate each day as a new day to be grateful for.........and I look forward to more Birthdays if it is in the cards for me to have them.  I did not think I would reach the age of 70 and here I am about to complete 79 on June 18th  :)   However...the truth of the matter is that all any of us has is NOW***   So I hope and pray for all of us that we make the most of our NOW.   This is especially hard when we have Fear riding on our shoulders all of the time (will it come back?) (has it spread?)  ....and we all know that we have to conquer that monster called Fear and seek Joy in each and every day.   Sending you many thanks for all your good posts and Prayers for Strength and Courage and Hope.... with love, Glo
