Got my MRI results

in Head and Neck Cancer #1

I just got the MRI results. There is a problem with the left maxillary sinus. A vertical septation is seen in the anterior aspect of the left maxillary sinus. All other parts including nasopharynx, oropharynx, parapharyngeal and paranasal sinuses are normal. I will see my ENT doctor Thursday. I have questions:

1) My problem is in the left maxillary sinus from MRI. Last time my ENT doctor thought i have a nasal septum spur after nasal endoscopy , he did not say the left maxillary sinus has a problem. Who can tell me difference?

2) There is a swollen lymph node on my left superfical neck. I can touch it. But from MRI results, no lymphadenopathy is identified. Why does not MRI show the swollen lymph node?

I know i should ask my ENT doctor. But i have to wait 2 days. So i seek all your suggestions. thanks.

    I think you got good news today. No one has said you have cancer. When I had my first PET scan, they found "right maxillary sinus disease". The ENT said nothing needs to be done unless there are symptoms that bother me. It's not cancer,  more like a sinus infection. Since infections can cause swollen lymph nodes, that could be why you can feel yours. Your ENT will help you decide if you need treatment. You are still in my prayers. Please let everyone here know how you're doing.

    lymph nodes swell for many reasons

    A mosquito bite, a local scratch, heck, sometimes they swell for no good reason.

    And, I agree.  It isn't cancer until they say it is.

    All and all, this is good news......

    First and formost, no cancer. Now as far as lymph glands swelling most likely it just them doing there job. To fight any infection. I don't think the endoscope can really get into the maxillary sinus, so the MRI will see what is going on. As far as the ENT seeing something like a spur on your septum that might not be anything the MRI would mention seeing the septum, the upper part being bone and lower being cartilage. You have very good questions and I beleave your ENT will be able to answer them. Until you do see him try to take a big deep breath and be so greatful no cancer was found, and you will be fine.

    Like Bill just said the good part is that they are not seeing recurring tumors. The body has a lot of ways in which it fights off infections lymph node are one way, I know it is hard to sit and wait and not worry so I hope you get to see the ENT soon so you can be at ease.

    I don't think you should worry too much about the sinus, it is very common, and I mean very common for there to be a change in the max sinuses, they tend to thicken up as you get older and develop small retention cysts sometimes they call them polyps and sometimes refer to it as thickening or spurs. I have had a mucous retention cyst since 2005. They sinus does this so as to not overproduce mucous. Certainly get it checked out, but do not worry too much
