    Nine chemos

Yes. I have had a situation where chemotherapy failed. In fact, I have received nine different chemos since being diagnosed.  This might be a board record??

If a chemo stops working, the oncologists try another one.  Are you in the United States, or other country such as the UK?

    good luck

    Ask Onc

On your next visit ask his oncologist About trying a different combo or lowering the Oxi amount due to his dehydration. Why he has this without diarhea or vomiting I can't answer, definitely one to ask the Oncologist about.

There are so many different combinations and chemo's out there, like I said before, I've been through them all, sometimes two or three times before they stopped working and another was tried, it's been over 5 years now, so it's been rough, and I'm sure it isn't easy on your father, but there is probably a combination out there that will work.  It just takes time to find it and patience (patience isn't easy I know).

    I've been on Avastin twice

once for 5 months with the oxiplatinin, then went on just Avastin from there, then just August last year on the Oxi and Avastin again until it stopped working.  My a oncologist let me try Avastin by itself although he think it works best in combination with another drug.  It did t work by itself on me.

It's also possible to be hard on your heart.  I had to have a stent put in the widow maker artery as it was almost completely collasped, all my arteries where blockage free and the heart doctor could only guess it might be due to the Avastin.  Whether that's what it was, we do NOT know for sure.

DO you know if they did

DO you know if they did genetic testing on the tumour for KRAS or NRAS mutation.  It is one of the major predictors of what chemo will work.  Also MSI testing is recommended by some to determine if the tumour is MMR deficient.  I have stage 4 colon cancer with a 9cm tumour in the liver and a 4 cm with some satellites.  I was diagnosed in Korea.  I was blessed to be given free genetic testing of my tumour that showed it was what is known as the wild type, non mutated.  So we started on Folfiri with Erbitux.  Just got my latest MRI and the 9CM is down to 5CM and the 4 CM cant be seen anymore.  I am hopeful that I will be a candidate for surgery, the oncologist has refered me.  One thing I do take extra which was recommended to me by a lady who had undergone 33 rounds of chemo for liver cancer was a suplement called Hemo Him.  It keeps your red blood cell count up while your undergoing chemo.  Its been working for me.  An important part of this whole thing is keeping your bodies natural defenses up as much as possible.  My current doctor pronounced me dead when I came to him from Korea, but he has changed his mind.

    Keep Strong

My wife's chemo - 20 rounds of Folfox - 12 rounds of Folfire stopped working as her mets to her lungs were getting bigger and CEA went from 25 - 80.  The tumors in her liver went away which was one positive.

She is now on TAS-102 at the Mayo Clinic.  She has the KRAS mutation and we were told we were running out of options.     She has just finished her second - round.   We are awaiting a scan / blood test in a couple of weeks.  Hopefully she is one who will respond to this drug.

Ask the oncologist what other treatment options are out there.

Live life the best you can and have as much fun with your Dad as you can.   You never really know what lies ahead.
