Checking In - 3 Years

Hi All

I just wanted to check in as I haven't been on in quite some time. I was diagnosed with MEC back in 2012.

All is well with me, and I went past 3 years all clear in March this year on my latest scan. This place was a fantastic help when I was 'on the bus', and for all of you in the early stages after diagnosis there are many wonderful people on here to guide you as they did me. My children were 1 and 4 years old when I was diagnosed at 33 - I was willing to do anything to see them grow up, to fight until my last breath. And I am enjoying it so much now, they are flourishing into wonderful kids I am incredibly proud of. Life is good, and although it may seem a long way away in the darker times, for many of us there will be a light at the end of the tunnel and 'normal' life will seem so much sweeter when you get there.

To my old 'bus mates' and friends who helped me on here - Phrannie, Skiffin, Tommyodavey to name but a few, I hope you are all doing well.

To everyone currently going through our forms of cancer, I hope you can fight the good fight and come out the other end stronger.

All the best

Leo

    Hey Leo!!!

You don't have any idea how great it feels when one of the old bus mates pops in and updates us on what's happening with them!!  Gawd, it's SO nice to see you....and it makes me happy in the extreme to know all is going well with you.

I'm still hanging in there, too....I think Mr. Ditto is doing well, also.  Side effects keep me on my toes....I'm a worry wort....should have been a ballet dancer....LOL.

Hugs to you.....I'm tickled you decided to drop in.

    Thanks Everyone

Some familiar and very welcome faces!

Phrannie its great to hear from you my old bus mate, I'm really glad you are doing well and nice to hear ditto is too, he is a great character. I remember when he first came on here so down and out about everything, and before not too long he was transformed into an unstoppable positive force! Its so great that you have continued to post so regularly and I know you will have been an amazing support to so many people the way you were with me. You deserve things to keep going your way, and long may it continue!

Guzzle ha what a surprise to see you on here my fellow scouser! I remember you mentioned it now. I still think about Access quite often, and miss his wise words. What a great guy, the world is certainly a lesser place for having lost him too soon. How are you getting in mate? Are you still doing plenty of running?

And thank you John as ever for saying hello, again you must have helped so many countless people on here - I take my hat off to you sir for all your outstanding work. I very much intend to keep on keeping on!

Thanks WMC and Debbie too for calling in, it all seems like so long ago now I was last a regular. Peace and love to you all, great people.

Thunder Run for Head & Neck Cancer

To raise awareness (and money) for Head & Neck cancer and the wonderful people at Aintree University Hospital Liverpool who looked after me so well, we are entering a team of 8 for the Adidas Thunder Run on the 25th-26th July in Derbyshire. This involves your team running continuously for 24 hours, each lap is 10k so that is the minimum you must run in one go before handing over to the next team member http://www.tr24.co.uk/

From a personal perspective I'll also be doing in memory of a fantastic guy who posted on an equivalent UK forum called Cancer Chat whom we sadly lost 6 months ago, his forum name was Access. He helped so many people on there over the years with his wise words and advice, in the same way that the likes of John and Phrannie have on here. As he was a fellow sufferer of Head & Neck cancer (he go through SCC, but sadly got lung cancer a couple of years afterwards) I will be thinking about him on the day.

I know that Guzzle who is a poster on here is a fantastic runner and I think there is a good chance he would like to take part, so if you read this get in touch mate and we can get you involved - I don't have contact detailts for you so hopefully you read this. Its going to be a fantastic challenge, hopefully we can raise a lot of money through our pain and even one of the senior doctors / professors at Aintree is part of the team (apparently he is a fantastic runner).

The organiser from Aintree said she'd love to have you involved Guzzle so you and I could be two former patients on the team - she said it'd be great proof and inspiration to people that are going through treatment, that there is life after cancer.
