Went to my dental appt today expecting not a lot but instead of just a good to start treatment I have to have a bone smoothed out ,and then she finds white patches on the gum on side of the cancer is on. To her credit she got on the phone with my ENT. and Rad Onc. Who ordered another Ct tomorrow man talking about a kick to the head and up till then I was feeling pretty good but all the wind has been taken out of me now. Has anyone else experienced anything like this along with the HPV+16?

    Ups and downs

Your journey will have ups and downs so buckle up. Hopefully, more of the ups. Sounds like you are in good hands with doctors communicating between themselves.  Worry won't change things so let the experts make the decisions on what you need. I also had last minute dental issues to address right before starting tx.  i don't think it is that uncommon. Hope all else goes smooth for you.

    Not until they say so.....

Your dentist did the right thing and took all precautions and called your doctors. Hat's off to her for doing a great job. It might be nothing to worry about but must be checked out. They seem to be on it very fast, so wait for the CT and we hope it turns out to be of no real concern. If it is, you are on top of it and will beat it as well. Please let us know.

    ed, i'm actually waiting on

ed, i'm actually waiting on my dentist to call me back as i type.  i had a sore in my mouth on 3/14.  went to dentist and he said come back in a week.  when i went back he said call if its still there in 2 weeks.  well, the sore doesn't look raw anymore but it is still painful and a white spot on my lip where it meets my gum.  like you, i'm a little worried but doing my best not to let it get the best of me.  I am praying our sports are NOTHING and we've just wasted precious time worrying for nothing.  then we can have  a talk with ourselves and remind us that it is not cancer unless a doctor says it is......lol.  be sure to let us know.

    God bless you,

you are at what my husband

you are at what my husband and I consider to be the worse part of the entire road.   My husband was diagnosed the first week of Sept last year. He finished treatment the 3rd week of February this year.  after 3 cycles of induction chemo, 35 rads, weekly carboplatin, 2 cyberknife sessions, 5 ER visits with hospitalization, 2 visits to iCU; we still consider the period of getting the diagnosis as the worse. You go through so many emotions. And everytime we saw a doctor the news kept getting worse to the point that I didn't want to see any anymore.  I had not found this forum yet.  Glad you did early. Come as often as you need!

Try to focus on just getting to the end of each day. Don't think about the next day, week, month ,year too much. It gets overwhelming.  Just focus on the day at hand.  It isn't an easy road to travel but as you can read here, many have done it successfully!

Glad your docs are talking to each other.
