Today's Test Results

I had all my scans on Monday. I don't have my oncologist appointment until March 23rd. I was pretty stressed as you can imagine and worried sick about waiting 2 full weeks for results. I asked my counselor for advice and she suggested I email my Dr and let her know my stress level over waiting 2 weeks. I did. I got a call this evening from my Dr letting me know all my scans showed no sign of cancer and my CEA test was stable. Honestly I dropped to my knees hearing the news. I get so frightened. These tests trigger all my fear of a recurrence, especially after having a recurrence 16  months ago, found by a CT scan, that once started the cycle of major surgery and 6 months of chemo. I suggest everyone see a cancer specialist counselor if you can. It really helps.  Interestingly enough, my very best friend has ALS. She doesn't get even the hope of scans and possibly a chance at more life. For her it isn't if but when. She is slowly becoming a captive in her body. By getting 6 more months before my next tests, I have the ability to continue to be a support to her. She is so kind and loving. Especially in the face of her own situation. I almost hated telling her my results, but she sncerely cares and always asks. It is a bit like survivors guilt I think. I think that will be next weeks subject for my counselor.

Blessing to all of you in your journey and fight against this disease....

Mary

    Wonderful News

I am so happy for you about the scans and my thoughts are with your friend.

I know there is counseling available, and at some point I may take advantage of it.

Thank you for sharing the great news. I think we all need good advice from time to time. As a caregiver, I am stressed out all the time, and my friend suggested me to see a counselor. After reading your post, I feel this could be a good approach to take. Thank you.

If you can, just assume all test results willbe the way you want.  Then the wait until you realy know isn't too difficult.
