verey happy as I have 2 daughters
& 2 grand daughters

1 sis - 2 nieces & 1 great niece.

as it was explained. - the general population risk without the mutation for ov & breast ca is 2-5% or with the mutation - could be 50%.

    Hi Jue!

When I told my oncologist that I was interested in taking the BRCA test (I have a daughter, granddaughter, grandson and son; also a sister who is concerned) he told me it was a good time to find out; a new drug was just approved that is only for BRCA positive.  I AM positive and will meet with my oncologist in a few days to discuss the results and what it all means for me.  He wants to discuss PARP inhibitors, which I have researched and found the new drug that was approved is a PARP inhibitor.  Yes, it does effect our future treatment plans. The obstacle standing in my way is that I contacted my insurance company, it is a Tier 5 drug and will cost me hundreds to thousands to be treated with it.Cry I will find out more when I meet with my oncologist.  I was NOT informed of my family history, so I am now able to at least let my relatives know......it will be up to them to do what they want with the information; but, unlike myself, THEY CAN MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS!

    Hi Susan P!

So happy for your BRCA negative results!!!!!!  I just tested positive; even though it's not my fault, I feel terrible knowing that there is a 50 % chance I have passed this mutation on to my kids and grandkids Cry

    Hi panda gypsy  still waiting

Hi panda gypsy  still waiting for my results takes 12 weeks here,  just seen your post sorry you tested positive for braca, the nhs in the uk will only let me have these  parp drugs when I've exhausted my chemo options and I've looked at trials here and some of them won't accept you if you've had more than 2 chemo regimes , it seems so wrong we have things out there that can prolong our lives and make our treatment a little easier ,and it comes down to the dollar or the pound !! Will let you know when my results come in . X

    You are so right Jue

It IS all about the money, unfortunately..........the doctors I have worked with don't really understand how this effects us........they just know they have the knowledge to help us and wonder why we can't...........my Dr. keeps on insisting that their foundation can help me, they have $$$$ in  it.  He doesn't know what to say when I tell him we are "too rich" :(  Yeah, we are retired and on social security...........there is no room in the budget for $1000 co-pays on weekely chemo treatments. So sad to hear it seems to be the same everywhere......money money money  The only real solution is for us to get divorced, but THAT cost $$$$$ too...........and it's pretty sad to consider that after almost 42 years Cry
