PEG tube question

Does getting a PEG tube require a hospital stay or is it a day procedure? I read that it's a two day hospital stay? I thought it would be something you had done and were out the door that day.

Thanks

    Hi Vick

Normally it is a outpatient procedure, you go in, in the morning and out that evening. Once you have a PEG it might need to be replaced, that is just a normal doctor visit to have it replaced.

Hope this helps and Welcome to CSN H&N

    Peg Tube

When my husband had his first peg tube it was done as outpatient.  His second peg tube he had to spend the night, don't know why, guess different doctors have different approaches.  Now when the first one was removed his head and neck specialist did in the office.  He still has his second peg tube and the hospice nurse replaced it while he sat in his recliner.

Wishing you the best -- Sharon
