NED!

Hi guys,

Just a quick message to say that yesterday my mum got her results back and she's now officially 3 months NED!

The oncologist said that the cancer looks to have completely gone, the lump is not there anymore etc. He said it's very unlikely to come back as well, used the word "Cured" and we're just ecstatic really.

I want to thank everybody who has helped me on this forum, with questions for my mum, you will never know how much they helped me be a good carer to my mum. I actually cried yesterday when he said the scans were clear, have been waiting a long time to hear that.

Anyway, thank you everybody and good health in the future to you all. Will still be using the forum to try and pass on some knowledge to any newbies.

Adam

That is fantastic news!  I am so happy for you and your mom and I know you both are quite relieved.  A person and their caregivers really go through a bit of hell during this treatment, but as you now both know, it is totally worth it.  I wish your mom continued NED.  She is so fortunate to have a son like you and you deserve all the best too.  Good health and happiness to both of you always.

Hopefully my results will be as good on the 6th February - keep your fingers crossed for me.

    "Cured"

Not to be a downer, but as you may know we are normally considered NED(No Evidence of Disease) until we are/were 5 years post treatment.  After two years the prognosis of "cured" increases significantly.  Please make certain your mom aheres to all her follow up exams.  This is very crtical particularily during the first 2 years.

Wonderful news! Thrilled for you both!

I echo the need to adhere to follow up protocol.i have only just achieved the 2year out mark, but my follow up wasn't proceeding as per protocol. In fact, rather than the 3 monthly check, I was going to be left 8 months between DRE's. Fortunately for me, I knew what was required so I was proactive and got the job done, so to speak. I too am in the UK & the NHS is stretched to say the least. Just keep on top of it!

    Thank you for your replies

Thank you for your replies guys, we are very happy!

Don't worry, we will be followings the protocol of follow up scans, she has a CT scan in July. Does that seem OK? I know they are usually every 3 months but the oncologist seems to think 6 months will be fine. Should we push for something in 3 months? It was stage 1 if that makes a difference.

Good work, Adam & Mum! I hope all future follow-ups follow the same pattern. Do you still plan to relocate to Barcelona?
