Newly Diagnosed

Hi Susan,

After I had a radical hysterectomy for USPC and knew I would have chemo, I made an appointment with my dentist.  They did an exam and told me I had a tooth with a very deep cavity that would either need a root canal or, the easiest option was just to have it pulled.  I said I would think about it as I needed a surgical procedure to have the port installed and I just didn't want to have to think about dental work too!  Four days after my dental exam, my 92 year old mother, who lives with me had a spontaneous hip fracture and dealing with that, on top of everything else, made me decide to wait on the tooth.  Long story short. I've still got the tooth although part of it is now broken off.  The reason I am on the bladder cancer forum is because I had to have a cystoscopy last week, due to heavy bleeding from my bladder/kidneys, fatigue, weight loss, etc. I had every symptom of bladder cancer.  The only thing the surgeon found was that the back wall of the lining of my bladder was very thick.  He did 3 biopsies and all were benign.  However, I'm still a bit worried and wondering if I should get a second opinion. I'm sorry you have a diagnosis of bladder cancer. I hope you get a better answer than what I was able to give you.  I will keep you in my prayers.

Hi Susan:

So sorry to hear about your diagnosis.   If you have an infection, you need to take care of that.   They should be able to give you anitbiotics for that and then should be able to do the chemo.  But every doctor is different.  What does your oncologist say?   If they are opting to do a root canal, I would do some research on that if you can.   It may be better to just have it pulled - depending on what tooth it is.   I had my back tooth pulled but had one of my front teeth root canaled.
