Scans coming up

in Kidney Cancer #1

The time has come for my husband's 4 month scans and my stress is kicking in for me.

his doc spoke to us about the contrast and said he wasn't expecting bad news given how well he's doing but as many know, physical pains do not necessarily mean no progression but will be trying to stay calm.

his surgeon (who did the laminectomy) gave him the ok for light skiing which has been great news for him and he's planning a short ski trip. Since I don't ski, he's going with his younger (and very protective) sister. Of course, this won't be until after his scans and visit to the oncologist. He's also consulting with a nephrologist which I have been pushing for a while 

his spine had been on the verge of compression and fracture 17 months ago and now he's planning to ski; amazing and hopefully a positive thing for stage 4 folks. Life goes on and as his caretaker/wife, I worry and he enjoys life. I gladly accept the job.

    Oh dear, no wonder you are uneasy with those scans coming up. I understand, best I can. We live in the human condition.

    I try not to let worry take over in any situation. Things out of our control our well, out of our control What else can you

    do to keep sane and worry less?

    What a wonderful caretaker you are.. he's lucky to have you!

    Glad he can ski if this brings him joy.. but gulp.. hope he'll be all right. At least he's LIVING right?

    Best to you and yours.. we'll walk this journey along side both of you. if you like.

    I'll be thinking of you.

    It's the worst feeling. The waiting is unbearable for me when my husband needs scans. I think next time (April) I will be asking for some medication from my doctor for anxiety. Keep us updated on him.

    Hi Sarah,

    All the best with the scans what day is it? Carers are part of a golden multifunctional team, ever selfless and loving where would we be without them. My husband tries not to show he is worried, he is always positive and upbeat. I can always tell when he is stressing though because he goes into pacing mode. Your husband has done so well, may it long continue and he can go off and enjoy some skiing with his sister.

    Scans

    my husband is having his chest and abdominal CTs on Saturday and the bone scan on Monday; his appointment is on the 18th.

    so, I am beginning my worries early.

    DJ, I cam definitely relate to your husband; when I was going through breat cancer, my husband not only stayed positive but asked the questions of docs which I was too emotional to ask and kept the house running since we had two young sons. Quite a heavy load!

    our sons are grown, married with young families of their own; they want "updates" on dad and don't quite get the impact on mom. i know they feel stressed about this but don't express it.

    my husband is doing very well 18 months after diagnosis and has rebounded from the weight loss, anemia and all of the strains of surgery and cyberknife. His medical team is not treating palliatively but rather monitoring closely with the hope of not needing drugs as long as possible.

    let us know what you learn this week, DJ.

    I will be thinking and praying for good results for you Sarah and will get back to you on mine. Take care try to not to stress too much, I know it's much easier said than done:)

    Wishing you the best possible news, Sarah. It must be so very stressful for you. There ought to be a special place in heaven for the caretakers. Bless you all.

    thank you, Jojo, you are kind; my husband took care of me during my breast cancer (1992) and I am giving back.
