    Cough

    Hello,

I had the EC spread and form a tumor in my lung.  That caused a lot of coughing & other respiratory things.  My Doc gave me benzonatate for the coughing.  I found it somewhat helpful, but the coughing was too severe for it to be perfectly effective.  I'd give it a B-.

Hope you find soething that works for you,

    Thank you for your response.

Thank you for your response.  I'm actually searching for info for a friend.  Her husband had reconstructive esophagus surgery after radiation and chemo.  He's doing well except for the cough.  I'll pass on the information.  Gosh, I hope the cough is GERD related, not a lung issue.

I know that forums are one of the best way to get information.  I used a pancreatic cancer discussion board when my dad was fighting the battle of his life.  I'm not sure exactly how this site works, but thank you for  the info.

An ongoing cough is common after esophageal surgery

    Susan,

When I had my esophagectomy I had an ongoing cough (particularly when I lay down) that lasted about three months after surgery. It is fairly common for post surgery survivors and tends to go away a few months after surgery. My surgeon prescribed OTC cough medication that helped but it took time to run it's course.

    Best Regards,

    Paul

I also had a dry cough.

I also had a dry cough. The answer for me was a esophageal dilatation. The coughing

ended after that procedure. I hope this helps.
