Total hip replacement surgery scheduled

when it's not raining, it's hailing!  I have surgery scheduled for 2 weeks from today for left hip replacement. I'm ready to change family dr and oncologist!  Had another ultrasound run on my thyroid (fairly large nodule on left and another showing up three weeks later on the right.)  Inconclusive needle biopsy with the notation that papillary thyroid cancer can not be ruled out. So, had another uS run...both nodules have grown in past 4 months!  PCP writes me a letter saying everything looks good and we'll take another look at it in a YEAR!  On my CT scans, they couldn't use any contrast because of my creatinine level, and although the left lung nodule has increase to 2.4cm!!! my oncologist has not contacted me about anything and, in fact, is very blase' about the whole thing.  He's out of the country on vacation and I won't see him until the first week of November, so he's not concerned at all over something  the radiologist designated as EITHER metastic disease OR primary lung cancer.  I'm just getting tired of doctors not caring about anything.  Hell, yeah...let's just wait a year or so and see if any of this kills me, and if it does..."oops!"

i just hope my left leg doesn't fall off when they get finished with THIS!

excuse my whine...I just ate a piece of cheese and couldn't help myself.

    Oh Tillie!

What a bunch of worries! Maybe it is time to find a new doctor. I don't think the care you are getting is adequate AT ALL!

Good luck with your surgery. While you are healing, try researching new oncologists.

    Big Hugs

    I've already decided to call

I've already decided to call Moffit Cancer in Tampa and make an appointment for right after the first of the year.  I don't want to make it too soon after surgery, because it's a two hour drive up there.  If they tell me that they agree with my oncologist down here, then I'll know I'm getting reasonable and good care, and I'll just calm down and have faith in my doctor.  If they don't agree with my treatment so far, then I'm ahead of the game and have a better shot at beating this with a new doctor, right?

My oncologist at Moffitt is Dr. Mayer Fishman.    He's brilliant.   You can do a google search on him and see some of the articles he has written on renal cancer.

    Plan of Action!

Hey Tillie, I am glad to hear you have a plan of action, getting a second opinion is always best. I hope all goes well with your op and you can eventually look forward to more sunshine than rain!

    Thank, Djinnie.  It's getting

Thank, Djinnie.  It's getting closer and closer to surgery time.  Just had my pre-op blood work done.  Also, finally got a copy of thyroid  US report.  Left nodule has grown minimally and is identified (by the same guy who performed the inconclusive biopsy!!) as a complex dense growth.  The nodule on the right side he identified as a hypoechoic nodule that is also bigger than the last scan. I also have (3) nodules on the central area between the left and right lobes.  He says, in his impression, that I possibly have goiters nd to keep an eye on it. WTH?!? The first ultrasound I had said the left nodule was a complex, dense hypoechoic growth, and that Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma could not be ruled out.  Guess since he screwed up the biopsy, he ruled it out....even though both sides are now identified as hypoechoic growths.  If my kidney makes it through this surgery, I will have new doctors.  I have absolutely NO faith in my PCP, nor the ultrasound people he uses anymore.  We'll see what my oncologist says on Nov 5, regarding the growth of the lung nodules and my constant cough that hurts when I have a really bad coughing spell.

on a brighter note:  my new deck is complete and looks gorgeous.  Will be getting the hot tub/spa delivered on Tuesday, and may get to have a nice relaxing soak in the sunshine at least once, maybe twice before surgery! Yay!  Won't be able to get in the spa for at least 4 weeks after surgery, but after that, I plan on being out there in the bubbles every single day!!!  Then after a relaxing soak, I'll be walking a mile or so and increasing that every day.

    Does he have a specialty

Does he have a specialty within the RCC class?  I'm a Chromophobe, and nobody around here had even heard of it before.

    Thinking of You!

Hey Tillie, what a pain in the backside some of these so called experts are. I know how frustrating all this is for you, it makes you want to pull your hair out. I had similar problems with my first surgeon, oncologist and radiographer, they were a right motley crew. They lied through their teeth, after my op I was told they had got it all, in no time at all I was told I had three new sizeable tumours outside of my kidney. I changed to a cancer clinic where the new Oncologist advised me they were quite clearly next to the op site on the kidney. Ugh! They had also missed other tumours!

You definately need someone more capable on your case. I am sorry you are having to deal with all of this, as if you don't have enough to contend with. I know how difficult the constant coughing is, I can't remember what is was like not to cough now, or be free of this husky voice.. They can't decide if it's the lymph in the mediastin or the lung tumours. I don't really care I only know it's challenging.

All the best with the op Tillie and finding more competent doctors!

How fantastic having a tub/spa, sounds perfect for relaxing. I feel like packing my cozzie, flip flops and a crate of the best French Plonk and coming over to join you.  Relaxing in a spa in the sunshine sounds heavenly!

    Take care:)

    Dr. Mayer Fishman

I don't know if he has a subspeciality in chromophobe.  He will certainly know about it.

Here is a link to his page at Moffitt with a phone number.   His office staff is very nice and helpful.
