in Head and Neck Cancer #1

Hey guys..things seem to be moving right along so pretty lucky so far.My question is what do I get to look forward to as hoping on friday they pull the peg tube.Haven't used it in 2 months and have gained weight.He wanted to wait till after the pet scan and that came back all clear.So with any more luck it get pulled

    I can tell you this, I was amazed at what a physical "non event" it was.  I was put on the table, 120 seconds later it was out and I barely felt it.

    one foot on your chest

    The doctor will put one foot on your chest and then yank for all he/she is worth. Over in an instant. The real pain came with the cauterization, felt like they were lighting matches and burning the wound, but alas that is also fleeting.  Seriously, compared to what you have been thru it's a non event for sure. Congrats on getting rid of the damn thing!

    Take someone with you to watch.

    The nurse liked my sneakers.

    For me, a firm pull, the PEG “POP”, a little swoosh of belly juice and since it was slightly used, I donated it to the less fortunate.

    Mine came out on it's own, twice, second time I said screw it and it stayed out, first time I had flushed it and was getting ready for bed, and it just popped out on my lap...I would of loved to have seen my face, no pain just seemed so unreal....

    The nurse told me it was going to feel like a "bee sting"....(the proverbial bee sting that everything from numbing your port to getting novacaine feels like).....the Dr. told me it was a little more than that....more like pulling a quarter through a dime sized hole.  He did not put a foot on my chest, however....gave it a two handed yank, and it was over.  Stung like hell for 90 seconds and that was it.

    I was so happy to have it gone, it was worth it.

    They just pop it off and dust on some pegBgone, works great and poof all gone. :-)

    Here's hoping they pull it soon!

    After I stopped using mine I started to chart what I was eating, I was told that I had to be off the tube and gaining weight.  I charted between 2500 and 3000 calories a day and still wasn't putting any weight on, but it was amazing to see how much better I felt every day

    I put my foot down to my radiation onc and demanded it come out.  They looked at the chart I was keeping and agreed that it could come out.

    As everyone else has noted, a quick pull, some fluids and a little sting and it was out.  It was still a couple of days before I could comfortably sleep on my stomach, but it was worth the wait.

     

    Glad to hear you're doing so well, keep it up!

    Mine was NOTHING!

    I was SO scared!!  They put a syringe in the tube itself to deflate the balloon inside me and gave it a small tug.  It just slid right out (no pop, no hard pulling...nothing) and a little liquid from my belly oozed out.  They dabbed it up with a paper towel and put a bandage on me.  It was the easiest thing....even better than having blood drawn.  No big deal and took her probably 30 seconds. I hope you get yours out with no issue :)

    if you've been turning your peg each day and it's the balloon sort they deflate and slide out easy. If it's one like mine was ...a disc inside and a triangle outside that was inserted  via the throat they ( in UK)  take it out the same way with a scope with a gripper on the end or like me they just cut the tube and pushed the disc inside of the stomach. My throat is blocked that's the only way to do it. I had another PEG put through the hole a balloon type and it was painless.

    went better then I thought it would.He just covered it as we kept talking felt alittle sting and that was about it.He covered it and said give it a few days and it should be closed up.Kind of nice to get things like this done and feel alittle normal again what that is....
