in Head and Neck Cancer #1

went to my oncologist yesterday for meds. she told me she does not want me to have surgery on the 25th. her and her partner both said to wait three more weeks so they can mesure the two spots on my rite lung the are 3centermeters now. if they grow in this this three weeks wait and see, that there is no sence in haveing to go thru the operation. so thats were i am at now.

    Don't wait

    As someone that has been there, don't wait and see, 3 centimeters is not small, I started out at 4mm and it was removed at one centimeter. Get another opinion.

    3 centimeters Isn't small

    I woulsd seek a second opinion from a pulmonary doctor.[ Which might take 3~4 weeks] Three centimeters is 1.18"  or 30 mm or 1  3/16" which is not that small. I realise three weeks does not seem like a long time but SCC in the lung can grow fast. My father had an x-ray that was clean and in six months it was the size of a tennis ball. Is your oncologist  one for the lungs or just a gereral oncologist ? I would want a tumor board for a second opinion.

    You have a hard dission to make and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

    Surgery

    I have one spot on my lungs that was found at MD Anderson about 5 years ago. The Chief Surgeon there said the same thing wait and see if it grows before doing anything. It is still there and we are not sure of what it is but like the Doctor said if it is not hurting you leave it alone.

    hondo, i am going to wait and see. but if it does not grow any more i guess ill have the surgery. .
