in Head and Neck Cancer #1

Just back from the cancer institute. Met with the ENT, he scoped the throat and said it looks awesome, and then said, "your throat cancer is now cured" good words to hear. It's been 5 years since trestment ended (last rad and cisplatin June 17th 2009). It can be done, feeling real good about this, he said to not make an appointment, will only see me if a problem arises.

    And I thought NED would sound good.  I didn't even know that the doctor's used the cured word.  Sounds good, very, very good.  Happy dance.  Dancing in the street.

    Same here.................

     

    My radiation oncologist used the "cure" word a couple of weeks ago after my annual appointment with him.  I have been through with treatment 5 years ago (6-6-09).  I too was amazed that he used that word, but he said it is what it is and we'll see you again next year.  We high-fived and scat out of there.

    Healed vs. Cured

    My team said that if I get past two years, then, if I get a recurrence, it won't be due to the original cancer. After two years, the appointments go to every six months. At five years they cut me loose and they would consider me cured. Congrats on reaching that milestone! I hope to be able to say the same thing in 36 months.

    Thanks all, was good to hear. the treatment was the worse time, but overall I think I fared well, took a bite out of the retirement plans. Now to concentrate on the other stuff on the table. Denis
