Skiff Update ~ 22 June 2014
Well, friends and neighbors....
It's been two months now... I still feel bad a lot, but have at lease started having more days that are better than worse.
This road to recover has been a mud slide, filled with pot holes and a few back sldies..., it's been brutal to say the least.
Not taking anything a way from you gals and guys... I know yours has been as well at times.
I was fortunate when I went through cancer treatment, I had minimal side effects.
The Whipple had my number, I think I've been at the head of the line for side effects, slow recovery, eating etc...
The holes in my sodes that were still draining all but dried up... Then I get this big azz abcess right in the middel of where the 26 staples were for the incision. Over a few days it hurt so bad, stretching the scar until it finally popped through. The most smellest fluid gunk coming out.
We had got a hold of my surgon whom said this happens.., he said more than likely it would open on it's own, if not he would see me that next day to lance it.
I figured when I went in that he'd sew up the big hole. But he said it looked good..., gave me anti-biotics and told me to keep it clean and covered...
Anyways, since then, I have actually felt better..two days.
I am set up to see my onco, which treats whipple patients... She is going to do my blood work and set me up with a nutritionalists as I still can't eat any solid food.

More better days
We will take more better days than not. Sorry that this has been so slow of a recovery for you. Hopefully when you are able to get some nutrition things will keep improving. My son was never stitched up after his appendix. It took exactly 6 weeks to heal up. I know that this is difficult for Shelly also, how about the girls, are they being gentle.

moving forward is so much better even if it slower than slow.
good to know they are working with you to help with eating and getting to feel better.
i would bett your best help would be catching, cleaning and cooking some of those fishie's you talk about so often.

Happy to hear you are having more good
than bad days at last. It sounds like a very very tough time and I think healing is slow when you cannot get enough nutrition in. Keep chipping away you will get there. Abcesses do smell rotten, good to get that treated so your body will heal faster. Take care, positive energy sent to you,

I was getting ready to eat, but after the “John Whipple sandwich”, I think I will pass for a moment. I feel your azz being kicked, but with better days I am satisfied.
Keep moving forward and have a cup of good mojo (if you can stomach it)

wow, John, this Whipple has really given you a whipping....lol. i'm sorry you're having so much trouble. maybe now that it has opened and the infection has drained, you can get back on the recovery road. if that's like a stomach surgery opening up, they leave it open to heal from the inside out. that way infection won't get locked in there again. i know the hole is gross tho. thank you for the update. keeping you and shelley in our thoughts and prayers.

John, I'm glad you're now having more "better days than worse" and at least it's a step in the right direction and you better than anyone knows that means you are starting to get better. It sounds brutal and for you to actually say it makes it sound pretty tough for anyone to go through.
Hopefully no more abscesses to cause any more pain or discomfort, and it keep getting better a little everyday. You have people around the world in your corner all pulling hard for you and we so look forward to your updates. I'm really happy that you've made progress from a couple of weeks ago and hopefully the pace of healing will speed up and the worst is well behind you.

They are very good.....
They know something isn't right, they want me to love on them like before, plopping on my lan and big belly rubs, but I can't handle that. So at least I can give them plenty of loving during the night..., and they keep me warm.

It is ruff at first and from a while after but as you know it will cram down it just takes time. I am in paradise right now enjoying a beautiful botanical garden in Honduras; this is the place you need to be for healing. Just walking around and enjoying the many different types of fruit trees, it is wonderful and a real enjoyment. I can’t eat them like I use to do but I can bring them to my place a blend them up and down my tube they go. Just take can my brother and remember we are praying for you to have a full recovery.
