This is my first day on this site and I noticed the java error in the chat room as well. I am running a standard PC running Windows 7, with the newest java update. It seems that version 7 and newer of Java now dis-allows the running of apps without a "trusted certificate" (whatever that is.) Anyway: Here is how I was able to fix the problem.
You should print this out because you won't be able to see this window, and follow all the steps involved.
In Windows 7 or 8, from the desktop, click on "start" then click on the "Configure Java" icon in the list. (It might be hiding in the "Java" folder as well.)
In the java configuration window, click on the "Security" tab at the top, then change the security setting from "High" to "Medium." Finally click on "okay" at the bottom to apply and close. (It will try to scare you with a warning about how apps should have a security certificate, but this setting still allows you to manually choose which apps you want to load before the fact.)
Now start, or restart your browser if already open. (The restart is necessary.) Then login to CSN and go to the chat section. The first time you do so, you will get a warning asking you if you want to do this. Just select something like "Always allow apps from this site" and click "okay," or "allow" or whatever it says.
You should now be in the chat room, and will get there without the warning in the future. These instructions work with all Win 7, 8 or 8.1 desktops and laptops. I haven't tried them with Win XP, Linux or Apple products.
Hope to see you all there soon!
