TERRIFIED of Biopsy; Questions

Hey You Guys,

So, I have this unnatural fear of needles...IVs, pic lines, port draws...just anything needle related. Bummer when you have cancerUndecided I like to know every single thing that's going to happen to me before it happens (medically). So I have a couple of questions if anyone could help, pretty please?

Lung Biopsy: Is it just a big freaking needle that they shove into your lung? I know they numb the site...do they give you any medication to relax you..like with a colonoscopy? So you really don't know what's happening? If not, does it hurt? Is it just pressure or will I feel it?

They said it wouldn't be wit contrast (guess they do a ct scan so they can see where the needle goes? If there's no contrast, why would they tell me not to eat or drink after midnight the night before? Does it make you sore for the day or ? Could someone just give me the inside scoop...how long did it take to get results? Thank you, Carrie

    Sorry for your fear

...it is not fun to be in fear, I am sorry for you.  I have never had a lung biopsy but I know that your experience will depend on the method....there several different ways to do the procedure.

    When is your procedure scheduled?

    It's next Friday. I don't

It's next Friday. I don't know why I work myself up so much...I really don't feel afraid of what the result could be..If it's bad, then it's bad today..I'll just know more about it with a biopsy and have a better chance of overcoming it. I think it's because I went through a lot in the hospital and just got to the point I felt like it was just inhumane. You start to feel like a human pin cushion. I do great until it comes to putting my body in the hands of a stranger who doesn't love me, or know what I've been through, or could mess up in some way..LOL...

I just do a lot better mentally with things when I know what to expect. My son had neurosurgery when he was five and I literally watched a video of how the procedure is done beforehand; my friends were like, How can you watch that?!!! But I just like to know everything.  My doctors are pretty cool..they know I freak out and just knock me out if it's at all possible.

Nothing to fear but fear itself, right? Yes..I'll keep telling myself that LOL. It's ridiculous to be more afraid of a needle than of cancer but that's me...convinced I can kick cancer's bootie and working myself into a tizzy over a big shot.

    I had one

Hi hon, yeh I had one.  I went in knowing I needed to have it to be able,to,do,the right thing possible. It's just something that would be an advantage to me.   I did not feel a thing, promise. Dr was very gentle. He told me,possibilities,of,what could, happen. He actually  went in twice cos,I think the first time he didn't get, enough on the microscope.  Again, it wasn't any problem. In fact second time,I looked at,the, screen and was amazed. ,,it's the thinnest of needles, tiny!  He put it in and did little twist back and fwd and never felt anything the whole time. Think I may have had a little haemorage around it,,well, that's what it looked like to me.  Again wasn't a big, deal at all.    I had Gods peace, the whole time. I knew it was for my best.  You will be fine. Just know I'm praying for u .  XxSue

Bless you for posting that! You completely relieved my fears..!! I sincerely appreciate that with all of my little pea pickin heart. Hope you're well today. It's been so pretty outside here; I'm going to invest in a good hammock and some new books. Sunshine is the best medicine sometimes.
