Did anyone use fake bangs under hats or scarves? Yay or Nay?

I bought them but have never got them to look just right under my hats.  It might just be me, but they just don't look right.

No fake bangs

I did not mess with bangs.  The hats I preferred -- bucket-style (TLC catalog, when I ordered them a few years ago) --  came down in the front far enough PLUS during this time I went back to wearing glasses rather than contacts.  So, my bare face (no head hair, no eyebrows, no eyelashes, etc) was not too obvious. 

I think that it probably can be challenging to get the bangs to look right.  Those catalog models have all the luck . . .

I agree with desertgirl that 1) catalog models have a tribe of stylists to make their fake hair look just perfect, and 2) simple was definitely better for me.

Also, because it was summertime, and I tend to run hot anyway, flexibility and comfort were the top priorities for me.  What struck me about those fake bangs was that you couldn't ever take your hat off in public if you got hot, and I found that I often took my hat off during the day.  

One other thing to remember is that not everyone loses their eyebrows or eyelashes, so your face may not end up looking as "hairless" as you might think.  I did 4 rounds of Taxotere/Cytoxan, and I never lost my eyelashes, and my eyebrows only thinned, and only for a couple of weeks.

Turbans, Hat, Scarves, Bangs, Wig and going bare head at home

I purchased two turbans for nightwear, one scarf (already to put on) one bucket hat.  I did buy bangs.

I was covered by my insurance for a wig and bought one just in a nick of time as  I retired.

I had the bangs cut to fit me but never liked them.  I now think there were a waste of money.  

I wear the hat and scarves in the spring, summer, fall.  Now I use a wig when I go out, it's warmer on my head during the winter months.  At home, I don't wear anything during the day time.  I do have hair, long in the back and sides and short on the top.  I notice that a lot is not coming out again.  I am still on Taxol.

and if I had had the courage to have someone take a picture of me with my wig on, I probably would have gone without all the months I was hairless. So many folks assured me my wig looked like real and THEN I saw a picture of me from a wedding I attended and cried I looked so horrible.And to think it wasn't even comfortable on my bare head added insult to injury. Concentrate on getting thru this and being comfortable.Returning to health is what is important now.If you get a wig, invest in a very good wig. Don't make the mistake I did that it is just for a few months and not worth the cost.

Thanks so much everyone for weighing in on the bangs or no bangs.  Yeah, think I'm gonna skip them.  I agree: simpler is better and I don't have the stylists at my side that the catalog models use!

 

Haven't shopped for a wig yet. But am getting a few hats and scarves.  Chemo starts next week. Eek!

No Bangs

Dee, I hope you are doing well with your chemo. I wore only scarves and occasionally a hat, no bangs. I did get fitted for a wig which I NEVER wore because i felt it screamed "CANCER" even more than a acarf did. You can find such scute scarfs and if they arent square I cut them and had the edges stitched so they folded into a triabgle nicely. Whatever you feel comfortable in is what you should go with. Your hair WILL grow back. :-)
