Hi candid,

Thank you for voicing your concern about not being able to log into chat. This is a known tech issue. We received a reply from our chat vendor recently:

"We are continuing to work through this issue.  The Java update introduced a bug to CS [Chat Space] which is affecting some customers and end users."

Our apologies for the problem this has caused. We will alert you when this has been resolved. Thank you.

How much longer is it going to be before the chat room is a viable part of this website?  Many of the members have turned to Facebook to converse with each other. I prefer not to use FB but I do miss my friends in the chat room. Hopefully you will get this resolved sooner than later.

those of us who work closely with CSN are just as anxious as you are for a final resolution. Chat works fine if you aren't trying to access it with the latest version of Java or from a mobile device. The chat application is Akiva ChatSpace, and our IT folks have submitted ticket and afer ticket, placed many calls and sent numerous emails to Akiva leadership about these issues. The response has been poor to nil. The IT department has investigated whether there might be a work-around solution for us as well as looked at other possible chat applications. Apparently there is or may be a way to uninstall Java and download an earlier version BUT doing so poses a risk to your operating system. It is therefore ill-advised (as I understand it). At the same time, IT has allocated considerable resources to improving CSN site performance and fighting the various types of spam attacks that target sites like CSN, which includes adding staff to monitor CSN for spam/spammers, etc.  Before making decisions about a new chat application, it was deemed important to first address more pervasive issues that affect the entire site. While things are moving very slowly from the perspective of those of us who are directly impacted, I have firsthand knowledge of how hard IT has been working on CSN issues. I think they are getting close to being in a position to determine what is needed in the long-term to best support CSN. Even after a decision is made, it will take time to implement it. I'm sorry that I don't have an ETA on anything.

Best,

Greta

A post about the java security problem in chat has been posted with a resolution by adding two lines to the java exceptions list, allows java to go past the security issue.

Hi! SASH

I followed Ratpuppy's info to a tee and my old Vista laptop logged in to chat and I started a room and it seems to work. I tried many things previously but no success. Could it be such a simple fix? I've never used chat before so not too sure how it all works. Any suggestions to help members back on chat would be an extra asset .

Thanks
